Meet Trailblazer Kirenia McClain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirenia McClain.

Kirenia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
“Passion and the will to follow my dreams is how I began.”

I grew up being inspired by beauty. I watched my mom transform women on a daily basis. Seeing them walk out looking and feeling beautiful was amazing to me. It made them act beautifully. She empowered women through beauty and made them more confident. Besides getting inspiration from my mother, I also had all my female relatives as beauticians.

Has it been a smooth road?
I finally decided to follow my dream! I did so by learning to perfect my skill, enrolled in school and stopped being afraid. Now, that I finished the first phase of my dream/career I have changed and inspired the women around me. They have noticed how much happier I am now, and how my personal style has improved. School has allowed me to learn and meet mind like professionals that share my passion. The main obstacle in my journey has been myself. I put my dream on the back burner for a long time. I thought that having a demanding traditional career and family would not allow me to pursue my dream. But I was very wrong. I am excelling and doing things that I thought I could never do or have time to. My advice to young women is to go for your dream. Don’t live regretting that you never tried. Don’t be afraid to fail!

We’d love to hear more about McClain Makeup Artistry.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
In today’s climate, there have been more women speaking out letting truths be known on the difficult challenges they are facing. This is presenting the opportunity for other women to step to the forefront and create greatness for themselves. I feel opportunities as a makeup artist who is passionate about her work is presented to me as a woman to help and assist other women who want to succeed. The biggest opportunity for me is to get better at my craft, so I can become a meticulous individual who empowers other women.
