Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Simmons.
Casey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born and raised in a small college town in North Central Florida, Gainesville, I started playing tennis at the age of 7. I later played in college, for a year, at Florida State University.
As a competitor from a young age, staying active and healthy was always enjoyable, and important to me. I began working with a trainer at the age of 12, and quickly soaked up all of the related information; it became a part of who I am.
As I continued growing up, my interest in exercise, nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle grew. Next to my acquired child development knowledge from teaching Kindergarten (for 3 years after college), fitness became my true passion.
After taking off a year of work to learn about myself, grow, and experience life like I never had before, it led me to quickly becoming a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM, as well as becoming certified in nutrition. I decided my calling was to combine my passions of educating, and helping others. I wanted to make a positive impact on the way others look and feel about themselves, like I was doing for myself.
I had immediately fallen in love with Barry’s Bootcamp as a client in NYC, and after moving to Miami in August 2018, I became an instructor at Barry’s Bootcamp Miami. In addition to Barry’s, I began personal training, taking on nutrition clients, and became a Pre/Post-Natal fitness coach; and am loving every aspect of it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I was very unsure of where life was going to lead me, where I wanted to live, what I wanted to do for work, if I would make enough money to live comfortably, and if I would be “okay.” I stressed myself out constantly wondering, “where I was going to end up,” and worried I would never, “figure my life out.” But in reality, your life is never truly figured out. You’re constantly learning more about yourself and growing in ways that you never expected. Curveballs are thrown at you all of the time and there is nothing you can do about it but learn from them, focus on the positives, and bounce back from the negatives.
It’s so important to take the time to truly get to know yourself. You can’t waste a second worrying about what other people are thinking or doing, what they say you should do, or that this path, or that choice, is better for you, or a safer decision. There are always safer decisions, and there are always going to be people whispering in your ear, giving their unwanted opinions. You are your own person, and that is your power.
Life is an adventure, each and every day, so live it. Find YOUR passion and don’t ever give up on it!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am an instructor at Barry’s Bootcamp, a personal trainer, a Certified Fitness Nutritionist, and a Pre/Post-Natal Fitness Coach. I am very outgoing and I like to have fun with everything that I do. I try to spread my positive energy to all of my clients and put a smile on their face, while also supporting and motivating them to work hard to achieve their goals.
There is nothing greater than seeing the face of a client reach their goal, and/or hit a personal record. When a client realizes their mind and body can perform stronger than they ever thought it could, then they look at me with a face full of emotions, it sends chills down my spine. They are so exhausted, yet so amazed. They are so tired, yet so powerful. They are full of aches, yet so strong. The body itself is a miracle, and to push your limits and come out stronger on the other side, is a feeling like no other.
For clients to send before and after photos, whether it’s from training or eating healthier, and for them to thank you and tell you “it’s all because of you,” that they are more confident in their bathing suit, or to take their shirt off during a workout, or to look that much more beautiful in their wedding dress, feels amazing. For a new mother to feel like she has her “body back,” and to be happier, and healthier, and less stressed with living such a different life post-delivery, makes me so thankful to be doing what I do.
One thing that I am complimented on all of the time, are my playlists at Barry’s! I match the bpms of the songs, to the strength and cardio routines throughout your workout. There are times when you can just breathe, stay strong, and vibe with the music, and there are times that are made very clear by the beat build and drop of the song, that it’s time for you to take-off and give your max effort. No, I don’t share songs easily and my playlists are not public
What sets me apart from others, is that if you work with me, I will make sure you are smiling and enjoying the moment, even if deep down, you are hating me for making you put the work in. You will leave my classes, our personal training sessions, and/or our conversations, feeling happier and more confident in yourself, and your abilities, all-around.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Try everything that interests you, even if it doesn’t feel like the safe decision.
