Meet Tim Sperry, Angel Pedroza, Oro Padron of Smog Armor in North Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Sperry, Angel Pedroza, Oro Padron.

Tim, Angel, Oro , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We are the Smog Armor Team, and we are not a huge corporation just trying to sell a product. We are 3 friends with personal reasons to improve the air we breathe at home and also trying to make a change into an industry that is polluting every single household. We want to give you a solution to indoor air pollution.

And why paint you may be asking… most paints are full of hazardous toxic chemicals that can be released into the air you breathe for years after painting!

Tim Sperry the founder and CEO like so many others has sensitivities & respiratory problems from the many toxic chemicals that products like paint, furniture, cleaners, and personal care products released into the air in our homes.

Angel Pedroza Chief Operating Officer recently became a father and his mentality changed, now he is passionate to do his part and give his child the future she deserves. When Tim approached Angel about this product idea and he learned about all the health problems caused by indoor air pollution, especially in children and older adults all he could think about was how could he protect his newborn daughter from this invisible problem. It’s scary to find out that so many products we bring into are homes are full of bad chemicals and we assume they are safe for us but in reality are actually creating toxic living environments in our homes!

Oro Padron the Chief Branding Officer, he joined Smog Armor and would have never thought he would be involved in a paint company, but this is more than just a paint company. he had always wanted to be an artist since young age, but since almost all paints had toxic chemicals in them that he had allergic reactions everytime he tried to paint. Oro was never able to pursue his dream. He still has an unfinished paint at home from when he was young and this gives him the opportunity to pursue his dream.

But beyond our personal reasons …Air pollution is considered the biggest environmental threat to human health today, according to the World Health Organization, air pollution is responsible for 7 million deaths per year & 4 million of those are from indoor air pollution! We spend 90% of our time indoors where air is up to 5 times more polluted than outdoors, and up to 1000 times more polluted when doing home improvement projects like painting and cleaning! It is an invisible problem that affects us all, and has been found to cause asthma, heart & lung disease, cancer, premature death, and affects you on a daily basis!

That’s why we have spent the last 2 years researching & developing different formulas with one of the best eco-paint chemists & eco-paint manufacturers to make Smog Armor paint the world’s healthiest premium paint & most effective at reducing air pollution! The lab results for our final paint formula showed a 95.1% reduction of indoor air pollution in 1 hour that’s when we knew all our hard work was well worth it!

Each of us have different reasons for being apart of Smog Armor and our social mission to end indoor air pollution.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? Not at all. We have worked for so long that caffeine has become a must. Opening a company from scratch and introducing a new product to an antiquated industry has many obstacles. We can write pages of just how many obstacles appear in front of the final goal but as a team we agree the biggest one is being able to find timely resources and that are not too expensive. Many times we order from a printing company and its not delivered on time or the print is wrong, looking for the right packaging, the right shipping and so on but it is very exciting.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Smog Armor story. Tell us more about the business.
We are not just a paint company, we have a social mission to end indoor air pollution and disrupt the paint industry. Our product is non toxic and eco friendly but also we continue to look for manufacturing processes that are sustainable. We have a proprietary paint pouch that uses 80% less plastic but also if the consumer wants to get a regular can we have 100% recycled plastic cans. We will donate a can of paint for every can we sell towards anti-air pollution murals and also will donate paint towards school projects. Additionally, we have become a part of “1% for the planet” in which we will give 1% of our company revenue’s towards a non-profit of our choosing. we will also have an internship program for students in the future.

We don’t want to be a paint company we want to be the future of paint that cares about the environment.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We wouldn’t call it luck, it is more about right decisions. Our team did not meet by coincidence, we worked together on other projects and saw the in each other qualities that could be a perfect fit for a partnership. We think you can make the decision of who you surround yourself with and that plays a major role in your future for both life and business.
