Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Barrett.
Tanya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Seven and a half years ago, my husband died unexpectedly. In the year that followed his death, I found myself on a journey of self discovery. Self discovery with a whole new perspective on life was the silver lining I needed to keep moving forward for myself and my children. I did grief counseling, read books, tried new things, dated, moved, hired a life coach, became a massage therapist, traveled…. and with all of that, came the knowledge that I wanted to help heal people. Once I started my life coaching certification, I knew without a shadow of doubt that my journey had led me here. I encourage people to build a solid foundation for themselves. I accomplish this with guidance and support to find a daily routine that helps them establish self-care. (Putting our oxygen mask on first!) Once that basic building block is in place, we work toward their goals of living their best life! Whether that is putting a plan in place or encouraging them to soul search to find what’s next in their lives. I work mostly with women who have gone (or going) through a transformation. Widowed, divorced, empty nesters… my strength is helping women step forward in their lives with tons of validation and acknowledgement and ways to find their silver linings in everyday life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
HECK NO! The grief journey is not an easy one. There are days when you don’t want to climb out of bed and there are days you are beyond grateful for the life you have. I know that sounds crazy and trust me, it makes you feel crazy! Needless to say, when you are grieving your husband and your children are grieving their dad… it can be extremely difficult. And then, there are the mistakes you make. I’ve made my fair share. A failed relationship and a few friendships that went by the wayside. Struggling to find the “new” me and changing my mind a few times before figuring out my true calling.
Silver Linings Coaching – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I coach women who are in a transformation stage in life. I help guide them to figure out their next steps, what brings them joy and how to be grateful for the little things everyday (the silver linings)! I enjoy working with women who are ready to take their life to the next level and are motivated to make changes. I’m known for finding ways to take grief to gratitude, finding the silver linings in all situations and everyday life. I am most proud of stepping outside of my comfort zone with my journey through grief. I always thought grief was something not talked about and it turns out that is far from the truth! It’s something that needs to be talked about more. Validating other’s journeys is necessary.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to is the satisfaction I get hearing a client’s energy shift. Sometimes, it’s a subtle shift and other times, it’s a huge shift from feeling like a victim to feeling like a survivor! I’m always looking for speaking engagements and I love the feedback I get from sharing my journey.
