Meet Suhey Cruz of Susu’s Creations in Miami-Dade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suhey Cruz.

Suhey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Panama and raised in Miami, Florida. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a degree in Aviation Administration from Miami-Dade College. My enthusiasm for this field started over two decades ago when I began organizing and redecorating small spaces for friends with existing furniture. My first real job was when I created a friend’s closet from the ground up. I helped her with everything from the selection of the chandelier to color coordinating her shoes, clothes, jewelry, and intimate apparel. Now with over 17 years of experience in project management, I’ve decided to venture on this new journey in both professional organizing and decorating.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having in life comes smoothly. After gaining enough courage, I kicked the fear of the unknown to the curb and was able to start something that I’ve always been passionate about.

Everyone starts off small and I’ve had to learn to juggle while switching into multiple hats. When you first start a business, you have to do it all. Learning to balance when to create for a new client, shop for clients, work long hours, edit pictures, post on social media, and study for certifications can be a little overwhelming. In addition to all that, I also manage a second company and still have a personal life. Lucky for me there’s coffee!

I also have to make time to organize my body and mind; recharging my batteries is essential so that I may provide the best service possible to my clients. There comes a time when I have to shut it all off and put away my phone to spend quality time with those who matter the most. Nothing should take the place of your family, especially since work takes so many hours away from them each day.

Please tell us about Susu’s Creations L.L.C.
Each organizer has an area of expertise. I have a gift (since childhood) for visualizing spaces from the moment I step into a house. It’s unique how my mind immediately goes into work mode editing a space as I look around. I not only organize but I redesign, decorate, stage, and manage events. We are a team of two; my husband is not only my business partner but my biggest motivator.

With my initial consultation, I soak up as much information as I can in order to learn more about the client so I can best cater to their needs. The initial meeting session is the moment I use to earn my client’s trust, capture interests, and figure out how to make their days functional according to their lifestyle. When I do something, I put my full heart and passion into it. There is a lot more to professional organizing that transcends beyond what meets the eye. The real transformation not only takes place in the space but also within the client.

I am most proud of seeing my clients’ expressions when I do the final reveal. I can sense their palpable emotions as they fight back tears, gasp in amazement and smile from ear to ear. This is what I love the most. The final reveal is precisely the moment when I know I’ve been successful at doing my job. No one can take those moments of success away from me, and I will keep doing it until my expiration date.

Getting to know my clients a bit deeper through my work is what sets me apart from others. I like to create a bond with my clients which makes the process less structured, and more personable. In the end, I end up gaining a friend, not just a client.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is going to my grandparents’ farmhouse in the countryside of Panama. I am an only child, so being surrounded by family made this my happy place. The image of my grandfather immediately comes to mind when I think of this place. He taught me so many lessons that are still fresh on my mind and I will forever hold them close to my heart.

I was so motivated to meet Suhey,
And even more inspired to read her web page and her accomplishments. In todays society it is very important for all women of all ages to have women portrayed as successful professionals in all careers. Suhey is one of these Women that threw hard work and sacrifice embodied the word phrase “Yes we can” for me personally my Family and friends always provide encouragement to excel at everything I do. But to actually to see a woman like Suhey who can be any women like us. Our positive roles are very important to all women and especially younger ladies who would like to know how to follow and achieve and conquer our dreams to succeed in life. I like one phrase that Suhey says “I truly feel that the way your home is how you feel inside”. This is very true; my house is my castle and it should feel that way.
