Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Carter.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sierra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up I was always involved in athletics. My father was my track and field coach, so I wasn’t allowed to slack off. I learned that if I worked hard, I would see results. When I got to college at UF, my journey with organized sports came to an end. I felt lost and without knowledge of what I should be doing to stay fit, I found myself in a whirlwind of fitness fads. I tried counting calories (which meant eating almost nothing), “skinny teas”, sweat wraps with thermogenic creams, pointless supplements, and more. Nothing seemed to feel right or give me the results I wanted.
Eventually, I got a job working in the weight room at UF’s Southwest Recreation Center. I started to make friends with the right people and began learning more about health and fitness through my coursework. I tossed out those fitness fads and adopted a healthy, balanced lifestyle. My body and mindset changed, and the women around me took notice. Soon enough I was the one that they came to with all of their questions! I loved it, so when the training manager at the gym asked me if I wanted to become a personal trainer I jumped on the opportunity. I knew how hard it was as a woman to avoid unhealthy fads and find the truth about how to get fit.
Fast forward to today, where I get to spend every day teaching other women to avoid the pitfalls which plagued my early fitness journey. I noticed a gap in the fitness community and I aimed to fill it by showing women how to achieve sustainable results the right way.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t know if anyone gets a smooth road. Life is filled with bumps and potholes. It’s how you choose to move forward that matters. I think the biggest obstacle that I’ve faced is the transition from a big-box gym to working for myself. It definitely wasn’t an easy decision or an easy transition but I and my clients are so much better off for it. If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you. And the only way to experience growth is through change.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Sweat with Sierra is all about helping women look, feel, perform, and live better through a sustainable exercise and nutrition program. No diets, no restrictions, no spending hours on the treadmill. Just simple eating strategies and fun, exciting workouts.
Our client community is called “S.W.E.A.T.T”, which stands for Strong Women Empowered And Training Together. We are all on our paths, but that doesn’t mean we have to travel alone. Instead, our clients work together as a group of like-minded women who empower and encourage each other while improving their lives through health and fitness.
I offer personal training in Miami as well as online programs for women anywhere in the world. Either way, my clients rest easy knowing that they’re getting a program made specifically for their goals and lifestyle.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was always outside. I had a horse when I was a little girl and I used to spend pretty much all of my free time riding. I loved animals and thought I was going to be a vet when I grew up!
As I got older, I participated in other sports as well including track and field. On the rare occasion that I wasn’t outside, I was either singing or creating. Art and music have also played a huge role in my life and shaping who I am.
