Meet Ronide Monvil

Hi Ronide, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Ronide Monvil and I’m the owner of cheveuxlakay. Cheveux Lakay mean “hair from the motherland. I started this journey when I was 11 years old doing hair. Me and my sisters grew up doing each other’s hair and from there I fell in love with doing hair. Me and my sisters got really popular in our hometown, homestead and from there we built our name. I went to school for cosmetology and I knew I wanted to be more then just doing hair. After I had my 3rd baby is 2018 me and my husband became homeless and I had to figure how to make money quick. I remember praying and asking God for something I would enjoy doing and after praying he gave me a formula on how to make hair oil. I remember sitting on the phone with my sister till 6 am figuring how we were gonna release it. I stepped out on faith and released my hair oil. I made 40 bottles I sold out the same day. I called my sister screaming and crying I couldn’t believe it I sold every last bottle. Since then, we have grew drastically we’ve shipped to 42 states five international.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been smooth, it’s actually been one of the hardest journeys ever. It’s been so hard that their were times I had to chose between paying bills or buying inventory and I chose my business every time. Running a business and being a wife and mom is extremely hard when making sure everyone is getting the same amount of love and time and still trying to work on my life goals. As hard as it’s been I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m Ronide and I’m a hairstylist. I specialize in braiding, taking care of natural hair and helping hair grow. What I’m most proud of is being an amazing mom and wife while still pushing for my dream. I’m proud of the women I’m becoming daily not only for myself but also for my family and children. I’m known for doing hair and I believe that’s why so many people trusted me when I released my products. What sets is I never stop learning. I’ve been through so much trails and I’ve never thought about quitting. in the midst of close to losing my mind I always chose my dreams cause I know the reward is much greater.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Whewww covid-19 has been so rough but man has it been a blessing. We seen numbers we’ve never seen before during the pandemic. I was pregnant and I had to push through. I remember our vendor went short on bottles and we had to come up with a solution and come up with one fast. One important lesson I learned was FIGURE IT OUT. When running a business theirs no such thing as “ I don’t know” you have to find resources and figure it out for your customers. Shipping was crazy but communication and being honest is the key to successful business and your customers trusting you.
