Meet Romina Naparstek of La Romi Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Romina Naparstek.

Romi has over 15 years of experience as an educator in the formal and informal environment. Growing up, she was the designated baker. And when she became a pre-school teacher she loved seeing how fascinated and excited children got every time they had a hand in baking.

Later on, as she worked with college-age students and adults, she made sure cooking was an essential part of the activities. Needing to take some time from teaching, she went ahead and pursued a degree in Baking and Pastry and what better way to merge both passions than to teach baking and pastries to sweetened your learning.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. As every road, we travel there are some rocks that we need to go over in order to regain confidence, analyze the path going, and take time to see the overall picture. Time, location, and marketing has been the strongest issues I have had.

Becoming an entrepreneur I had to make time during the day to work on all aspects of the business: marketing, websites, photography, accounting, recipe development, or preparing materials for classes. Sometimes it feels as if there are not enough hours on the day to work on everything that I would like to.

I teach most of my classes from home. It is a small kitchen, At most 5 people fit there. It is hard to repeat classes and offer some new ones with limited student space. I believe that with time, more and more people have been finding out about the classes; however, it is hard to reach to the broad South Floridian community.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
La Romi Bakery is a baking and pastry school. We offer classes for all ages: children and adults. Most of the classes are focused on baking and pastry, however, we have offered classes in pasta and pizza, Jewish cooking, and Argentinean food too.

We are known for offering an outstanding experience to participants. All classes are hands-on, and ingredients and recipes are included in the cost of the class. Participants have proven time after time, that the recipes they take home when cooked at home give them the same final product as in the class. We try to use equipment and appliances that most likely participants will have in their homes.

At every class we create a relaxed atmosphere where the participants will feel comfortable working, asking questions and gaining confidence in whatever it is they are cooking. We believe that the passion for cooking and teaching is the key ingredient in every class.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe Miami is a great place to start your business! It is multicultural, diverse, and most of all it is fertile, meaning there is still so much room for businesses to succeed. In addition, I believe that Miami has been changing the way it looks at innovation and partnerships.

Businesses are open to collaborate and I believe there is a collective understanding that we are stronger together.
