Meet Roberto Balcker of Prime Den in Miami Shores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto Balcker.

Roberto, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always worked in sales. Back in college I sold high-end knives door to door. When my father had an insurance company in Brazil I was in insurance sales. After moving back to the US, I had a business that bought securitized mortgage packages. We would then renegotiate the terms to help the borrowers. I decided to start in real estate after the market started recovering. There weren’t enough mortgage packages for sale at a discount. Since then, I have always sought to improve on the business. I would do this by reading books, doing coaching and joining high performance teams.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
People think that real estate is an easy business because the margins are so high. What they don’t stop to think is that it is a low barrier to entry industry. That means there is a lot of competition. It makes it hard to differentiate yourself. Additionally, by not having a “boss” you must develop not only the skills, but also the discipline. You have to do what you don’t feel like doing on a regular basis. There were some tough phases. In the beginning not making enough income. Later making the income on an intermittent basis; feast then famine. Not putting aside money to pay the taxes. But all were great learning experiences

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company Prime Den is within the fastest growing brokerage in the country, eXp Realty. It is a cloud-based, agent owned, technology-based company. It recently got upgraded into the NASDAQ exchange and currently has a market cap of over $1 billion. I specialize in helping homeowners sell their homes. I am proud of the fact that I am able to sell homes on average for 104% of the asking price. The average agent in my market is only able to get 93%. My homes get from 2 to 12 offers and have sold for as much as 13.38% above asking price. My average days on market to sell is also significantly lower than agents I compete with. I sell fast and for more money.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Brazil attending an American school. I was always very outgoing and curious. Doing a very wide variety of activities. Martial Arts, sailing, dancing, basketball and soccer were just some of my activities, to name a few. One of the things I enjoyed was camping. I did some survival courses. They were challenging and fun.
