Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always challenges in any business. As a social enterprise, those challenges are amplified. When our program participants come to us for training they have often endured significant trauma in the forms of homelessness, incarceration, domestic violence and mental health issues. Our challenge every day is to meet them, where they are and help them navigate towards a more stable life. This is often difficult, but always rewarding. We have a full clinical and case management staff to provide support for our program participants.
Our goal is to provide the right mix of training in both hard and soft skills so that our graduates exit the program with employment and then retain that employment. Many of our graduates have gone on to work for well known restaurants, catering businesses and even the public school system.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Joshua Catering Company – what should we know?

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion drives my work every day. In the words of Albert Einstein, “I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious”. Passion is not something you can fake and I don’t believe it is something you can teach. I knew the moment I first experienced the heat, sweat, electricity and fast-paced ballet of a commercial kitchen, that I was hooked. To be able to help people in the pursuit of that passion is just icing on the cake, no pun intended.
