Meet Nicole Cappetta of NW Bulk Market

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Cappetta.

Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Some on the internet knows me as @lettuceturniptheeats, I’m your internet BFF who shares a real-life approach to healthy living. I create easy healthy recipes and health food products that I love to use. I came up with the idea to take that to the next level and start my own online market, NW Bulk Market. NW Bulk Marker is more than just a health food store, it’s an online farmer’s market. We find small businesses across the U.S. who make amazing clean food, beauty, skincare and household items and set them up with their own shop in our market. It’s kind of like Etsy meets Wholefoods.

A few years ago, before my food blogging days, I sold cupcakes at local pop up markets in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. I learned a ton about what the hustle it takes to start and run a business that makes handcrafted products. This where my appreciation for handmade items came from. So much so that it is one of the pre-requisites for being apart of our market.

At NW Bulk Market, each purchase is an investment in a small business. Not only do you get to shop their amazing products, but on their Shop page, you can meet the owners, get to know them, and link to their social media to continue supporting them. Our goal is PROMOTE our shops, and we collaborate with influencers and recipe creators to help do just that.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been smooth – we are sort of creating something that didn’t already exist. However, the support from our community has been beyond amazing. We are just getting started, we only opened in June, but we’re adding shops consistently and can’t wait to support more.

Please tell us about NW Bulk Market.
Our online farmer’s market makes it easy to find clean healthy food, beauty and household items. We require that each product is handcrafted by a small business, made with all real ingredients, and packaged as minimally as possible.

We currently have 10 shops in our market and most of them are women-owned. This was not intended but we are certainly proud of it.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was definitely going on road trips with my grandparents. The summer before my junior year my grandparents took us on this month-long trip driving across country to San Francisco. I was in high school so at the time I was not very excited about spending an entire month of my summer vacation with my grandparents but looking back it was an amazing trip. I learned to drive on that trip, driving across country which I think is why I am such a fan of long drives to this day. Of course, the best part was every time we stopped, for whatever reason, my grandfather would always wander back to the car with some treat or something he thought we would like. I got to see the Grand Canyon and the Gold Gate Bridge, we went window shopping in Beverly Hills and my sister and I discovered Green Tea Fraps from Starbucks. It was a great trip.
