Today we’d like to introduce you to Nani Segovia.
Nani, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Nani’s Healthy Food was born in response to a condition called Childhood Paroxysmal Vertigo that my youngest son developed when he was two years old. After a deep investigation and lots of trial and error, we discovered that vertigo was triggered by some type of food. At first, we eliminated dyes, dairy, and soybeans among others, until we found our answer.
Given this limitation, I start looking for alternatives for his daily snacks. It was impossible to find any product that met all our requirements without sacrificing the good taste and texture that my son wanted.
I decided to take the matter in my hands and start replacing the ingredients of traditional recipes with fresh and unprocessed ingredients. No dyes, no artificial coloring, all-natural! I started attending cooking courses, workshops and many hours researching on that topic.
During this first stage, I was living in Venezuela. After many attempts, I finally found the recipes we were looking for!!! Banana Bread, Pancakes, Cakes and Chocolate Mousse, all clean and suitable for my son’s condition.
As a mom, it was very hard for me to even go to a birthday party. We had to take with us all the snacks for Gabriel because he couldn’t eat the traditional cake. That aroused curiosity in people, and by giving them a taste, they were very pleased with the taste and texture, and little by little, people got to know the history of why I started with these products and also met other moms who were going through the same as I was, not finding anything to give to their children, and there was when I began to market them, having enough acceptance.
In October 2017, we moved to Miami, United States, and in just two months, I decided to resume what I enjoyed so much, to offer the products to help all the mothers that were going through the same difficult process, find suitable snacks for our children.
At first, our products were gluten-free, dairy-free with no refined sugars, but some contained eggs, so I decided to modify the recipe so we don’t have the need to use this last ingredient, since statistics showed that every day was higher the number of children who were allergic to the egg, and be able to offer a delicious and healthy product to the vegan community.
I first started selling them among friends, taking them to meetings where they invited me or workshops I attended. Seeing the receptivity of the people and the positive comments, we designed some labels to identify the products and seek advice in the marketing area, in order to reach more people and provide more benefits to the community, also creating awareness of the importance of eating healthy without this means sacrificing the good taste.
Has it been a smooth road?
Yes, it has been a relatively smooth road, but I think it was thanks to the fact that I decided to enjoy and focus on the positive thing that this path of changes have brought me, I decided to embrace my fears, accept that they will be my companions, because when we want something, this emotion will always be present and use the obstacles that have been presented to me to propel me.
It has definitely been a path full of learning and evolution that I have enjoyed to the fullest.

What’s your outlook for the industry over the next 5-10 years?
I wish that in the next 5 or 10 years, we have more variety of products so we can add our grain of sand in creating awareness of the importance and benefits that a clean diet gives us regardless of age, sex, activity, etc.
Expand our production center to provide more employment opportunities for the community.
Implement an organizational structure giving priority to single mothers or students who are looking for income to continue their studies.
My Nani’s healthy food expand nationally and internationally, especially in my home country, Venezuela.
I will continue working to reach my desires and provide health and life to all families.
