Meet Nabyl Charania of Rokk3r in Wynwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nabyl Charania.

Nabyl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From as far back as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by technology and its potential to change the world. Initially, I was hooked on circuit boards and tech hardware, which opened my eyes to a whole new way of seeing the world; I remember taking an electronics class in high school and having my mind blown with what I was holding in my hands. This inspiration led me to complete a Math degree at the University of Waterloo, and immediately following that, into the world of entrepreneurship where I had the chance to start and successfully exit software companies. And then, there was “the cloud”, and “APIs” and “IoT” and tech buzzwords started to take over the zeitgeist. Increased global internet connectivity along with sci-fi level technological advances was soon being realized on a daily basis. Were businesses and civic leaders realizing just how much and how quickly industries and life itself was being altered by these advances? I met my current partners in Miami around this time and the common thread we shared was simply this: the new digital age requires a rethink of the current and existing infrastructure for entrepreneurial innovation and investor access. And thus, the first days of Rokk3r, Inc., a global idea-to-exit ecosystem was upon us.

Has it been a smooth road?
Our higher, aspirational purpose at Rokk3r is to harness the global collective genius to co-build companies that change the world. Having this singular aspiration was paramount to facing a majority of the hurdles. Being able to contextualize what we were trying to do, and why we were doing it, day-in and day-out, was so very important. It allowed us to develop our approach, connect with the right team and partners globally, and be flexible enough to face all of the challenges that invariably come with creating a startup and evolving into a public company.

Anytime you have a vision you are going to have to deal with setbacks and naysayers. Ultimately, you have to stick to your vision and drag people along with you.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rokk3r – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Miami has built a reputation over decades as a tourist and cultural epicenter in America and for the world. It offers a unique lens into the past through a storied history, and more importantly, a view of what the city is aiming to be. From investments at the post-secondary level across multiple fields that is strengthening an educational infrastructure that will invariably bolster the economy, to civic engagement that is working to increase quality of life, to a growing tech ecosystem that is not simply just spinning out startups, but is working hard to stay at the edge of innovation while empowering traditional industries and attracting financial investment from around the world. This comprehensive effort across multiple strata of society to build on the past to stand tall for the future is what excites me most about Miami. Not without its issues that face any major global city, I am most inspired by what this city is aiming to be, and the hard work that everyone is putting in, which is undoubtedly making the world pay attention to what the future holds for Miami. Headquartered in Miami, I am grateful and galvanized by Rokk3r, Inc.’s role in this effort. The palm trees and the beaches are a great bonus as well!
