Meet Mr. Sunday Akinbiyi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mr. Sunday Akinbiyi.

Mr. Sunday, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started this business toward the end of 1999, around November. I was previously in construction/engineering. After almost 20 years in that profession, I decided to open an African store in South Florida since there was no authentic African store in South Florida area.

I had to travel to Nigeria and Ghana for good products, and arts and grafts. I started small and gradually we got to this level after 20 years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it’s not been a smooth journey at all, however, with God’s help in many directions of this business, He has made the road travel-able.

Well, when I started, it was a pure seasonal business, just between November and March. The period is just for those that celebrate Black History Month. So, between April and November, it was completely dry season, however, God made ways by using is for visitors to South Florida.

This business used to be a seasonal business, but now it’s all year round with very few months slow. We basically sell authentic African Products, such as clothing for men, women, boys and girls, Art and crafts, jewelry, bags, sandal and many many more all authentic products from Africa.

We are known for styles and authentic products, we also customize for all occasions/events. We are proud of selling original attires/products to our customers from all over the country, islands and South America as well.

What sets us apart from others is that we are known in South Florida as a one-stop store for those looking to buy authentic African products.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing at all. It’s been a great journey.
