Meet Morneque Moore-Ramos of Sugar City Designs in North Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morneque Moore-Ramos.

Morneque, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I launched Sugar City in 2013 after creating a Candy Buffet for my youngest Sister’s Sweet 16 a few months prior. My mom had seen one on TV and asked if I could do one for the party. The process was fun and the guests loved it, and Sugar City was born. I started with Candy Buffets and Sweets Tables only, then expanded to full Event Planning and Design. Now, we plan and Design both Social and Corporate Events in South Florida and will be expanding to other cities as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has been an amazing process with both ups and downs. Up until the end of 2017, I was employed full time and teaching at a University part-time in addition to running my business. After July of 2017, I left both jobs and went full time with Sugar City. I changed the company name from Sugar City Treats to Sugar City Designs, and went all-in on Planning Whole Events. The struggle to change course, establish more networking partners, build a different website, brand the new version of the company, acquire a more robust team, and balance time with my family and career we’re all happening at the same time. And as with any business as you grow, these things will continue to be a challenge, but I’d like to think I’m getting the hang of it.

Tell us more about the business.
Sugar City Designs is an Event Planning and Design company that specializes in Social and Corporate events. Our most popular events include Luxe Kids Parties, Opulent Baby Showers, Birthday Celebrations, Brand Activations, Conference Planning, and Event Design Workshops. I am most proud of the client base we have built over time. Although we have new clients that find us through advertising and word of mouth, we also have clients who have been with us through the years. We get to watch families grow and change over time and it’s such a great feeling.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think luck has a lot to do with it. I think preparation, solid decision making and consistency go such a long way in this and any other industry. I am grateful for every opportunity that’s come my way and thankful to the Universe for having what was needed to do a good job.
