Meet Michael Kuang of Syphon Fitness in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Kuang.

Michael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I worked in the corporate world in Accounting for 11 years and truly hated it. Then I started doing Personal Training as a side hustle and enjoyed it so much; I launched a business doing it full-time.

Has it been a smooth road?
I moved to South Florida to pursue my dreams of starting a business. It was not as easy as I had thought. It took me a few years to really build up a good clientele base. I had to network in my area since I was new in town. Building a solid reputation is important for any business, and this was especially true for me.

Getting to know more and more people really helped me feel at home and allowed me to put some roots down. I also learned that it was important to specialize in something and focus on my strengths. This way I’m able to work with exactly the type of clients I want to find.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Syphon Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
I started as a Personal Trainer but saw a need to focus more on injury prevention and recovery. I got into focusing more on Corrective Exercise and enjoyed the problem-solving aspect of it. Being able to see imbalances with posture and movement helped open up new doors and opportunities.

I was interested in learning about injuries because I have been prone to them myself, so I’d learn what I could do to work with my own. This leads me to study Yoga which was an excellent fit for me both for the Spiritual and Physical aspects. I was able to gain better Mental and Physical Health as well.

I started teaching Yoga and started seeing a shift in my business and incorporated it into a lot of my private sessions with clients. I heard about Yoga Therapy a few years later and knew that was what I wanted to study next. I was able to find a local school in Miami that offered Yoga Therapy and signed up.

The next two years was intense with weekend courses and eventually the clinical portion of the study. I was able to learn from great teachers from around the country and gained a lot of insight and knowledge to incorporate into my work.

I’ve been able to look at different perspectives, and I can adjust to work with almost anyone. I would categorize my services as a Medical Fitness Professional, as I’ve studied how to work with most physical limitations, and also working with health issues such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Cardiac issues, Anxiety, Depression, Alzheimer’s, and Dementia.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’m looking forward to the growth of Yoga Therapy, and I’m happy to be at the forefront of this new budding industry.

Currently, there aren’t many Yoga Therapists in South Florida. But numerous research studies are showing that Yoga is great for multiple health conditions and is starting to become more recognized in the Healthcare industry.

  • Everyone knows it takes time to see results, so I don’t offer a 1 session price. I do however offer a package rate that’s $100 per session (minimum 8 sessions).
