Meet Marie Ann Altuve of Selfmade Babe in Doral

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Ann Altuve.

Marie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi, I’m Marie Ann Altuve and I’m the founder of Selfmade Babe and a digital agency called Detailist. Selfmade Babe started strictly as a quoted account on Instagram back in 2018 when I was a student in FIU. I was still figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I changed my major three times up until graduation day. Throughout 2019 I was applying to corporate jobs and all I heard was the sound of crickets. January first rolls around and I’m still a girl with no job so I decided to turn this simple quote account into something larger because I was done being complacent. I figured instead of investing my time and energy into someone else’s million-dollar company; I could just put all my time and energy into Selfmade Babe. I wanted to build a community empowering women to achieve their version of success while also giving them the resources they need to stay motivated or start their business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Along the way, I was my biggest hurdle. I’d experience imposter syndrome, writer’s block, anxiety, and on top of that, I had to navigate the uncertainty that came with the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall I would say it’s more comparable to an airplane ride. Most of the time, it’s smooth, there’s some turbulence here and there, but it will always end with a safe landing.

Thankfully, I was able to accrue 10k followers in seven months. But who’s counting? Not me. Half kidding. Now that I have this amazing community, I’m faced with the pressure of having to become more careful with what I do and how I position myself and my community.

We’d love to hear more about Selfmade Babe.
Selfmade Babe is an online community, podcast, and digital platform empowering career-driven women to achieve their version of success. The Selfmade Babe podcast is designed to be a resource for women looking for entrepreneurship, career, social media, self-development, lifestyle, and wellness tips.

Selfmade Babe specializes in being a well-rounded and accessible resource for women. What makes me so proud of the community I built is that I could happily “retire” because of the impact this brand has created. I love receiving messages from women that say I allow them to be themselves or that Selfmade Babe has inspired them to go after their dreams. What sets Selfmade Babe apart from other communities is that I’m younger and I can appeal to younger generations. I can make many pop culture references because of my proximity to my demographic. Love throwing Mean Girls, Friends, and The Office quotes at my audience to keep it relatable.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
When it comes to Selfmade Babe, I don’t believe in luck. I believe in grit, providing value, and doing my due diligence. I always practice gratitude in my day to day life and because of that, I believe I attract good energy to come my way.
