Today we’d like to introduce you to Mardia Brown.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mardia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since I moved down to Miami after graduating from college, I was stuck on what I wanted to do with my life. I felt very discouraged trying to find a job in my field and not being very successful at it. I started bartending again when I moved after I moved to Miami and one day I said to myself I can’t do this all my life. I need to be able to create generational wealth while still doing something I’m passionate about.
I began thinking of ideas of businesses I could start and being in Miami and it being such a touristy location, I saw a high demand for swimwear. I began sketching and designing ideas on my own while researching what I needed to do to bring my designs to life. I began researching manufacturers and finally found a suitable one that could really bring my dream to life. My business isn’t where I want it to be but I’ve sure come far since day one and learned a lot about entrepreneurship and myself as a growing woman.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been smooth. I had to learn a lot of things on my own with no guidance. Some struggles that I faced in the beginning were language barriers with some of the overseas manufacturer, as well as price points for domestic manufacturers. I was trying to find the perfect balance between selling a quality product while not having to raise the price too high to where people couldn’t afford it. In addition to that, I also struggled with marketing my products and reaching the right target audience. Being in the age of social media, you have to be very savvy when it comes to marketing your product and getting it out there. Till this day, it is an ongoing struggle to continuously market my products and be able to reach new customers.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Simply CC – what should we know?
So my business Simply CC sells high-quality swimwear that I personally designed by myself. Simply CC is an e-commerce (in-line) business I sell everything online and do not have a storefront. I’m most proud of my company and its growth I have come a long way over the past year and it’s only up from here. What sets me apart from other companies is that I built this company from the ground up and I’m very passionate about the work that I have done and very proud of my accomplishments so far. I take the time to make sure that all my products are of quality and that they will make any woman feel beautiful.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality most important to my success would have to be dedication and creativity. While being a business owner, you will face many ups and downs and only the strong can really survive; it’s easy to give up when you have no help.
