Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Castle.
Lori, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Valley Stream, NY and moved to Florida in 1970. I have been in sales my entire life but got started selling advertising in 2000 after meeting a couple on a boat trip in the Keys! I worked for HCP/Aboard, the custom publishing division of The Miami Herald and literally started at a desk with zero experience. HCP was the Publisher for the GMCVB ,The Beacon Council, Hyatt Resorts, Charleston, SC and many other destinations. I traveled extensively for the company landing in a city for 10 days to sell their annual hotel magazine. In 2015, I joined The Lifestyle Media Group/South Florida Business & Wealth. It has given me the luxury of staying local and spending time with my husband, daughter, son-in-law and twin grandchildren who live nearby. In 2017, I was asked to Chair The American Cancer Society Celebration Gala Broward. My mother passed away from metastatic colon cancer in 2015, after a 12 year battle and I knew this was my time to give back. Utilizing the many contacts made selling local advertisers has translated well to the Gala’s success. In 2017, we were the highest percentage over goal in the State of Florida. I was asked to Chair this year again and armed with both more time and experience I gladly accepted. I am Chairing this year with my daughter, Heather Frantz as my Co-Chair. It is a privilege to work with The American Cancer Society.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think a smooth road exists in life. I was brought learning that getting knocked down is just a part of life. You get up, shake the dust off and move on. My mother was the strongest woman alive and an incredible role model. I have been married, divorced, remarried, had personal struggles, career obstacles, family problems etc.
I believe it’s what you experience that makes you who you are. I have raised my children with the same philosophy. Life can be difficult and self reliance and confidence in oneself is key. Tomorrow is always a new day.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lifestyle Media Group – what should we know?
The Lifestyle Media Group and SFBW publish 12 magazines monthly. What I love about the company is that there really are no boundaries as it is a very entrepreneurial environment. We are a company that is constantly evolving and growing.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My success in business has relied on my personal attributes. Being a commission sales person for over 25 years is really an independent endeavor. My true support has been my family.
