Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisette Azulay.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Venezuela and moved to the US about 2.5 years ago. I have always considered my self a very curious and creative person. That’s why a few years ago I decided to study Graphic design in my hometown. I’ve Always liked and felt driven to help people by understanding their needs and transforming thoughts into ideas and design. Coming from a place that every day struggles for a new reason, that may be political, economic or social I’ve realized that every problem has a solution or a simple way to see it. And that also reflects into designs and customer needs.
For many years, I worked as a freelancer in Venezuela and did some work for Panama as well. And later on, I felt that it was about time for me to improve and learn something new and complete. That’s why I moved to Miami and started the Art direction program at Miami Ad School. And I loved it. It was all I was looking for. Basically is a mix of design and advertising. Coming up with creative ideas that help to fix problems and empower brands.
I’m very thankful for the opportunity I had and the mentors that guide me through my journey. In two years of study, I got to receive more than ten advertisement awards. Including prestigious ones at a global level. Such as D&AD and Clio Awards. Thousands of creative people compete every year in such awards and luckily a few of them get the chance to receive one. A result of hard work and motivation. No matter where you are from, your dreams can become true. Now I just graduated and I’m looking forward to starting doing what I love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every new beginning comes with new struggles. For me was a new language, a new country, being away from my family and a lot of competition in the field that I decided to study. When I started it wasn’t easy, you have to adapt and be positive focusing on your new goals and desires. But I like to believe that when you address people with honesty and respect things and opportunities come your way.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a Graphic Designer and an Art director. As a designer, I create visual concepts to communicate ideas that inspire, reflect, inform and captivate consumers. That comes from developing all the layout and production for various applications such as logos, brand identities, packaging, magazines, banners, brochures, business cards, websites, and every printing and digital production someone may need.
Being an art director, I develop and create ideas for advertising campaigns and solve branding problems. Either to get more revenue, empower, or position them in a higher place in the market. Also, we are the ones responsible to think the how and the why in every production.
Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
I feel lucky about being in the place I am right now. I’m very thankful for being able to work with such Amazing talented people and mentors that believe in me and guide me in my career and persuade me to create great work and compete in important awards. I like to think that when you work hard and trust yourself great luck comes in the way.
