Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanette Scherr.
Lanette, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I established Artistic Solutions Permanent and Corrective Cosmetics in 1998. I graduated from the University of Miami with a Magna Cum Laude degree in Fine Arts in 1979 and have used my artistic gifts in multiple venues throughout my life. My practice specializes in permanent makeup and medical tattoo procedures such as Areola Repigmentation post cancer, scar and disfigurement camouflage of burns, surgical scars, cancer, disease, genetic mutation or other accident or injury. Over the twenty years that Artistic Solutions has been in practice, I have gradually evolved into a specialty of scar and disfigurement reduction techniques. My work is world renowned in my industry and I have spoken at multiple industry conference on my “camouflage art” for the last several years. I have clients come from all over the country for my work and I am so proud to have been able to paylay my artistic gifts into a very rewarding and successful career. This year marks my twenty year anniversary in this field and I find the challenges of my work, more rewarding than ever.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a fine artist, permanent makeup and scar disfigurement tattoo procedures came very natural to me, as I see my needles as my paintbrush and the skin as my canvas. It has been a very easy transition from my oil paintings. Some of the struggles that have impacted myself as well as my industry as a whole are the people that don’t take this work seriously and are not properly trained and licensed. It has unfortunately gotten much worse in the last few years world wide.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Artistic Solutions Permanent and Corrective Cosmetics – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in what I term, “Extreme Deception” the art of corrective camouflage of disfigurements and other injuries. I have done many unusual cases over my career and I love the challenge of a very difficult case. I was recently a guest trainer at a conference in January in New Orleans, where I worked on a severely damaged lovely lady that suffered very bad burns over most of her torso resulting in losing her natural breasts. She had reconstruction but was left with no nipple or areola. I tattooed on a 3D photo realistic areola and nipple on her after she had someone else attempt it before with less than great results. While there, I also tattooed the illusion of a 3-dimensional navel on a lovely woman that had lost hers due to surgical complications. This is the type of work that truly keeps me going in this field. Payment on top of that is a bonus.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the very near future, I plan to start teaching select students that I feel that have the artistic ability and talent to perform procedures like I do. I have had women from all over the world desire to train with me on advanced techniques and medical tattooing. I also hope in my free time to get back to my fine arts painting with oils.
