Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeeta Vaccaro.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I go by Keeta Vaccaro. I am 23 years old.
I grew up in a small city. With four other siblings, all four of us went to universities. My twin sister and two older brothers attended the University of Texas at Austin. I attended the school of the university of Miami. I moved to Miami alone and started my career here. I started in a physical therapy major due to being an athlete my whole life. I played basketball, ran track and danced.
My brothers were football players and later went to the pros.
I eventually found my path by curating content on my social media. I began to find friends interested in fashion and music. The entertainment industry’s as drawn to me. Living in Miami made it a bit easier to take the industry over.
Many of my friends worked and model for brands such as boohoo, fashion nova, Tom Ford and Dior. My dream then was to model and become an influencer for the other brands.
July 11th, 2018. I intern for Miami swim-week and got to see the inside of how to run a fashion show.
It was the most inspiring knowledge I could have taken in that year. I got exposure from the marketing firm operating the fashion show events to the designer showcasing her collection to the models wearing the suits, to the makeup artist and hair artist fixing the model to the press release video footage. I saw it all in one big glance. As soon as I have seen everything to run a fashion show, I knew I wanted to have my own show as a designer. A couple of weeks flew by, I started creating my own line. Thought the process, I had many names before choosing Misurare. About four months, I choose my brand name. It represents my ethnicity, Italian and black. My father is from Sicily, Italy and my mom is African American from Texas. Misurare stands for “measure up in English. This name represents the way I think and believe life should be. I believe that every human being wants to elevate their life and get to the next tear, by doing so, you have to measure up. So many companies are a daily reminder to keep moving. With that being said one of the slogans for the company is “be the ruler of your life.” Take charge in what you want to become now and in the future. You are in control, you rule your self.
By displaying the message for my people, I incorporate within my designs. Every piece of design has a true value to it. I wanted to embrace women and men to feel excepted in every size. That being a man or woman, you can feel confident in any size that you wear.
As you know, the fashion industry is hard to market to attack, but I’m not giving up. I know I have a story to tell and I’m going to create a brand to tell it on.
Each day, I get up and find a reason to keep moving. I spend 10 minutes a day to plan out my day and plan out how I’m going to attack them. This technique helps me stay active and to keep excelling. I read books like Tony Robinson, “master the game of money, the secret, how influence friends, and leadership books.” Reading keeps me knowledgeable and aware of new things. Some days, I go out and get inspiration from the people around me. Locations like the design district, whole foods, a walk on the beach. You really never know who you will run into and what you will see. I am a strong believer in Jesus. I have many quotes I say to my self, it’s: “keep my eyes open to things unseen, show me how to love like you, break my heart for what breaks yours.” These quotes help throughout my day. Thanking the lord for each step I am able to take.
Other than believing in Jesus and myself, consistency is the reason I am here today and working even harder to be further and further each day. I don’t believe and giving up or saying I cant. “I will and I can.“
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The obstacles that I face along the way is being alone in the process. Moving to a big city is hard but also exciting. I enjoyed having the freedom to think and create on my own but some nights, I would be lonely. Another obstacle I had was money, some days I would want to splurge and buy lots of precious items but you have to be frugal and invest my money into things that will gain me more success at the end. Having the motivation to stay on top of your self is another obstacle I had throughout my process.
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I am a fashion designer. I design swimsuits, athletic apparel, shoes, and accessories. as a young entrepreneur, I have the advantage to be in the face of the celebrities that work with tom ford, Adidas, Dior, etc. being able to be friends with influencers and higher power people help with spending less money on marketing. when here the saying ” your net work, is your net worth”, it’s TRUE. I specialize and designing, branding, directing, curation, and booking. I am most proud of my design division for the brand. It’s new, never done before and classic.
How do you define success?
I define success by fulling the goals that you set for yourself. The bigger the dream, the bigger the success.
I believe everyone has a success story, you just have to brave enough to believe in yourself.
