Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenia Gomez.
Kenia, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a child, I was always intrigued by fashion. I remember doing makeovers and playing runway shows with my sisters and our friends. My love for fashion grew more when I started to watch movies and shows from different eras. It’s incredible how a decade has distinctive styles due to people’s personalities and the fashion icons who show their self-expression through fashion. By the time I was a pre-teen, I watch people in parties, parks, or any location like a trend forecaster.
Through my four (4) years in Miami Senior High, GO STINGS, I was in the fashion program where I learned to sew and construct patterns. In 2004, I received my AA in Fashion Merchandising at Miami International University of Arts and Design (MIUAD). While attending MIUAD, I intern in JCPenney 2003 Scholarship Fashion Show; in the Village of Merrick Park 2003 Fashion Show, and I assisted in the visual layout of a section in the store’s interior and window display for Lisa Todd. After MIUAD, I was going to enroll in FIU to get my bachelor in Business or Marketing; however, I had to pause those plans, since I received a full-time job as a Fashion Merchandiser in Le Petite Choux, a children’s boutique in Bal Harbour. That’s when I decided to open a women’s boutique in the future. In 2004, I worked as a Public Relations Representative for Adrianne Ruffin Inc, and intern for Krelwear as a Public Relations Representative Assistant. Unfortunately, being an independent Public Relations Representative and the intern wasn’t paying the bills, so I accepted a job at Victoria Secret in late 2004. Fortunately, the Victoria Secret I worked was different from the original store layouts, and we had to create some of our own displays. The managers loved my visual designs and allowed me to show my creativity.
When the opportunity came for better pay in 2006, I took it. I paused my passion and started to work in the mortgage industry to help support a growing family of seven (7). At first, I was ecstatic and motivated, but I started to miss the fashion industry. The sitting for eight (8) hours didn’t help either. After going through some personal health issues, I stopped working and focused on myself. I am such a work alcoholic, I didn’t give myself time to heal and started to venture through three (3) different businesses at various times while working side jobs to support my businesses, which all failed. Those losses lowered my self-worth, and I began to distrust my decisions. I went from succeeding every job to failing business after business and plummeting in debt. After a couple of months of working on myself, I decided to follow my goals before going back to the mortgage industry. However, without the funds, perfect credit, and only one income opening a boutique would be challenging. That’s when my husband gave me the idea to start an online boutique for fashion enthusiasts like me.
In January 2019, Klassic Kraze started as an eBay store, selling men and women vintage and second-hand clothes and accessories to finance its future website. Also, Letgo and OfferUp were used for local same-day pick-up. In April 2019, with a little push from my husband, I finally launched our website and Facebook Shop to sell vintage and second-hand women clothes and accessories. By summer, Klassic Kraze began to sell new clothes and accessories for women. We still have an active account on eBay and continue to sell some pre-owned women clothes and different men accessories, even though we recently added a small section for menswear in our website. Now, Klassic Kraze sells a mix of classic trends with modern fashion by fusing new, vintage, and second-hand clothes and accessories to fit every woman’s distinctive style.
In working to make Klassic Kraze successful and as the owner, I’ve managed every aspect of the business from cleaning and ironing the clothes to setting up and designing every detail of the website including the logo; from the accounting and finance responsibilities to advertising, processing orders, customer service, and so much more.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish! It has been a rocky experience, but it has helped me in comprehending the ins and out of a business. The hardest struggle has been managing a household of nine (9) while running an online boutique and working on every day to day operation with some or no experience. Having a big family is a blessing, but it keeps you busy, and it’s overwhelming at times. That’s why managing my time, and organizing my tasks is crucial to the success of Klassic Kraze. Luckily, I have incredible children and a caring husband who noticed my struggles and started to assist more in household chores. Also, in June, my daughter became my first employee. My family has been a godsend.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Klassic Kraze – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Klassic Kraze is a trendy chic online boutique. We sell a mix of style from vintage to second-hand and new women’s clothes and accessories. We venture through vintage shops or boutiques in South Florida plus a little global network called ‘the internet’ to spice up our online store to suit every woman’s fashion craze.
I am proud of where we are now as a company. As I mentioned earlier, we started as an eBay store without any capital to a thriving online boutique.
What makes Klassic Kraze unique is the mix of classic trends with modern fashions by fusing new, vintage, and second-hand clothes and accessories to fit every woman’s distinctive style. Our customers can create their custom style with the different crazes we feature or complete a look they are trying to execute for an event. What’s your kraze?
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
