Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenia Carpenter.
Kenia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up with eczema. I mean really bad eczema. I remember when my mom and grandma would put ointments on my skin and I would have to lay in the middle of the bed while the fan cooled off the burning sensation I was feeling. I can tell you right now those products did not work. In my opinion, the medicated ointments didn’t heal my eczema. The ointments provided to me made it worse or helped me to live with the eczema. I preferred neither. Can you imagine growing up being embarrassed and taunted because of a skin issue? My insecurity seemed to amaze people, so I hid them. It wasn’t until 2015 when I started to take a control over my life and I formulated a combination of fruit and plant oil that not only soothe my skin but soothed my life. As I matured, I noticed that I didn’t care what people think and I would find myself loving me and appreciating me as I am. I am also a licensed esthetician. My eczema most definitely played an important role in me going to school and educating myself on skin. The knowledge that was given to me I put towards my business.
I was making my own body butters and face masks for myself and also for my best friend/roommate. I even hosted a spa party at our house and made everyone an oatmeal face mask! In 2017, my boyfriend showed me these rashes he would get on his back that would be itchy. I applied the body butter that I normally make and use on myself. He was relieved and insisted on me actually selling the product. I was skeptical of course, but with my whole well-being I just want to help the next Queen or King feel good about their skin and feed their skin the nutrients it deserves. I am happy for how far I’ve come and how far I will be going. I plan to have own store one day.
I am a natural skincare business owner and I alleviate suffering or insecurities for both men and women who suffer from eczema or atopic skin issues while also feeling confident in the skin they are in.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been completely smooth but so far so good. However, I would say the struggle would be to reach a bigger audience. I want people to know Beauty Butters.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Beauty Butters story. Tell us more about the business.
Beauty Butters is a beauty-confident, natural skincare line that helps both men and women who have eczema or skin issues while also feeling good about themselves in their own skin. I formulated a combination of plant and fruit oils that provides nutrients and healing to the skin. I’m most proud of the hard work and creativity that portrays in my business such as the products and branding. I would say what sets me apart from others is my motivation which is healthy skin over perfect skin. Although we are all about taking care of the skin, we also want to take care of the mind.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say a lot of praying, meditation, and research. Not so much luck.
