Today we’d like to introduce you to Chef Kelsee Major.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, I also tell people my mom and sister’s intrigued me, Culinary School refined me, and working throughout the Culinary industry made me. Being hospitable is simply part of my nature, I remember even as a young girl my friends would come over after school and I would cook for them. and believe or not that gave me solace. When I decided that I wanted to work in the hospitality industry, I was currently working for Jackson Hewitt Tax Service. I worked as the Tax preparer, Assistant Manager then Manager for about thirteen years while working, I attended school earning my associate degree in Culinary and my bachelor’s degree in Culinary Management. After earning my bachelor’s, I immediately started working in the Culinary industry. I mean I’ve worked in some of the finest restaurants and maybe not so fine! catering companies, hospitality companies, sports bars, small mom and pops, private yachts, etc. My culinary experience has been very diverse
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can honestly say it hasn’t been a smooth the challenges I faced were and still very challenging. I can honestly say it was the biggest difficulty I still somewhat face is believing in myself and not letting what others think to dictate my decision in life. I’m a pleaser and very passive so because of that I’ve always taken the role of not attending fully into myself but making everything and everyone else around me my priority. That creates struggles because I don’t know how to say no even when I know I’m supposed too. In 2016, I started having seizures as to this day we still don’t why it’s happening; I believe it’s from stress when you hold things in like I have for years that causes pressure. I’m also caregiver to my elderly father and my uncle who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease with that in itself can be very challenging trying to build my business has been difficult but through it all, I keep pushing some days I don’t know honestly I don’t but I figure it out.
Ck Spiced Pickles LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well, my company is CK Spiced Pickles LLC to which I make my own spiced pickles which can be used in versatile ways. I’m also a personal chef and teacher I do live food demos as well to teach how to prepare quick and healthy dishes throughout the Urban communities. My specialty would be soul-fusion fusing my background and culture with others putting things together that might not necessarily seem like they work but do! I’m proud of my small business is because I bring something different, I can honestly say I’ve converted tons of pickle haters, People who say oh HELL NO, I don’t want no pickles chef! Those are now my biggest customers I believe what sets me apart is my willingness to understand if we were all the same, how boring would that be?
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
To hear my father finally say I’m proud of you!
