Today we’d like to introduce you to Kavita Channe.
Kavita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A few summers ago I was in Provence and had the most fantastical food and wine experiences… and I wanted to bring that back home. It really was just a random idea I had after noticing there were only a few rosé wines offered on the wine lists at many of my favorite places back home. Not to mention, the current offerings were disappointing compared to what we had tasted during our travels. At the time, I had a busy TV career… was working with many non-profits to raise awareness… and I was newly pregnant… however, when you dream it and do it… the world opens up! Fast forward to now, and we are building our brand on-premise across South Florida from Miami to Boca Raton…and we have such a great following on Instagram as well as here in South Florida. This undertaking has truly been a team effort…from our talented and award-winning family of winemakers outside of St Tropez…to the amazing restaurants who carry us…to the wine and food lovers who enjoy our blend…I’m just really proud of our awesome team of fans, supporters and rosé connoisseurs alike. Can’t wait to expand and bring Channé Rosé to all!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Anyone that tells you that achieving their dreams has been smooth sailing is lying. When I decided to actually pursue this dream and passion of mine I had no idea that I would soon become pregnant. And when I found out I was pregnant, I wasn’t going to let that stop me. I had already put in so much time and effort and so I went full steam ahead.
In retrospect, I can have a laugh at it now. I was throwing these huge wine dinners to benefit charities and also introduce Channé Rosé to South Florida… while five, six, seven, eight months pregnant. Every month my belly got bigger and bigger…and there I was… promoting something I couldn’t even partake in! I would be going from restaurant to restaurant doing wine tastings… with me and my belly! And I would go home so exhausted and all I wanted was a glass of rosé… but instead had some prenatal tea! Then we decided to do our actual launch around the time I gave birth. That was a bit difficult. Of course, as a new mama, I experienced guilt whenever I had to leave her for meetings or tastings or travel. Just before summer, I had a launch party in Jacksonville at Barrique in Avondale and I was having so much separation anxiety about leaving Micah that I literally drove to Jax that morning and drove back to Fort Lauderdale right after.
Now Micah is almost ten months old…and I love that she has been there with me from the beginning. And as much as I love being with her all the time, I want her to see that my work means so much to me. I want her to see her mama achieving her dreams… and that she can one day do the same.
Please tell us about Channé Rosé.
I love that our rosé is really top quality. From the bottle to the cork to the label to the juice…I am type-A and made sure that we created something that I could stand behind and that I would personally drink myself. The reason being is that there are too many wine brands out there that start off with great juice and then, after building and establishing their brand, you notice a decline quality. It’s almost like they think consumers won’t notice. I love that we didn’t skimp so that we could turn a better profit! And this will remain our philosophy moving forward!
