Meet Julio Gonzalez of Engineered Tax Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julio Gonzalez.

Julio, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Being that I am from Miami, I grew up in a traditional Hispanic family, and through great fortune, I had the opportunity to go outside of Miami to go to college at the University of Colorado Boulder.
There I became exposed to other cultures and diversity.

I also became interested in business. This experience led me to work for Fortune 500 companies in tax and accounting. I did that for over a decade in Colorado after graduating from college. I then had a desire to return to South Florida. When I came back, it was difficult to find job opportunities that were exciting and that fit my cultural values. This ultimately motivated me to start my own company – where I felt I could find happiness and felt it was all achievable. In the corporate companies I worked for, I felt the culture was harsh and that each employee was just a number.

So, with that, I started Engineered Tax Services to fill the void, and offer tax benefits to middle-class America, not just to the very wealthy. My goal was to fulfill cultural needs and to help people outside Fortune 500 preserve wealth.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a first-generation entrepreneur who did not have partners, peer relationships, or resources, it was a struggle. Those struggles ranged from capital resources, understanding legal agreements, and dealing with employment and political constraints.

So, over the last decade, I have been learning and moving forward from the hard knocks at the beginning. With hard work, I have grown a successful company and have become a nationally recognized tax reform expert.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Engineered Tax Services story. Tell us more about the business.
Engineered Tax Services is the largest specialty tax firm in the United States and the largest private tax firm in Palm Beach County. I am the CEO, and I am known for being a nationally recognized tax reform expert, advisor, and speaker. I am currently working on the tax reform blueprint with Congress and Senate. I am most proud of my incredible team that has grown with me and my company over the past decade. Also, I am proud of the fact that we have brought these tax credits to mainstream America.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know about luck, but I think good fortune and my appreciative nature of the unexpected, along with my hard work and ambition led me on this path.
