Today we’d like to introduce you to Josephine Lentner.
Josephine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My mom is an agent with the company but I started out as an assistant to my manager Simone. While working for her, she saw that I had the potential to one day do what she does, so she hired me to join her team.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was definitely not a smooth road at first. I work in the male-dominated field of finance so imagine being a young of color trying to break into that field. It was tough because I had to overcome my mindset that I’m “too young” because, in reality, I’m not. I have the training and the knowledge to match up with any of the older agents, I just had to start believing and realizing it. Because I was able to overcome these obstacles, I succeeded and I did so very quickly. Within four months, I became the youngest Registered Representative in my company’s South Florida Zone and won many awards but I wouldn’t have been able to do so if I would have never changed my mindset.
Please tell us more about New York Life. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from the competition?
New York Life Insurance Company is a mutual company that focuses on life insurance, long term care, and annuities. I do all that New York Life offers as well as Mutual Funds, College planning, and Variable products because I am a Registered Rep. I specialize in using Cash Value Life Insurance to supplement college funding, retirement, and savings. I’m most known for being the youngest Rep in my zone and my passion for financial literacy. I would say I’m most proud that through my company I am able to help people build generational wealth, protect lives, and also that I can educate people on finance. I think what sets me apart is that I have accomplished so much at my age and I still have so much more to accomplish.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment has been passing my Registered Representative exam. my company had a 7-week study ground and out of around 30-40 people, only four of us passed. I became the first Registered Rep on my manager’s team and the youngest in our zone.
