Meet Josephine Jones of Haircraft by Jo in Broward County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josephine Jones.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For 18 years I worked at an upscale day spa in Weston. During the crash of the economy the owner was forced to close the doors. I took my clients to a nearby salon and thought, “life will go on”.

Unfortunately, neither my clients nor I were happy there. That’s when I decided to go out on my own and work independently.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning it was a bit more work than I anticipated to get things in order, but with the help of an accountant and the internet, I was able to lay the ground work. Now that everything is in place it’s smooth sailing!

Please tell us about Haircraft by Jo.
I have been a hairdresser for over 30 years. My approach is more creative than mechanical. I am a master colorist and curly hair expert. I am a Brand Ambassador in training for Quidad, which is a company out of New York, specializing in curly hair. I attend continuing educational classes annually to stay on top of the latest looks and I love educating my clients so that they can look their best. I offer online booking and I am conveniently located in Plantation, Florida, just off of I-595.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in rural New Jersey. One of my fondest childhood memories is joy riding through the mountains with my mother and we would all be singing in the car. To this day, I still love the mountains.
