Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Maxson.
Jessica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
A lifetime of organization and general helpfulness has led me to ultimately build Simplified by Jess. Throughout my career in marketing, I’ve become a jack of all trades and master of some. Prior to Simplified, in my personal time, I spent many of my days organizing homes of friends and colleagues, as well as planning their weddings. My favorite things to do are what most other people disdain – organization and planning – so I decided to take a chance and start my own business doing what I love.
Simplified is truly my passion project because I enjoy helping people and love to create order out of chaos. Happiness is what I feel when I’m able to simplify the lives of my friends and family (and the occasional flight seatmate or friendly stranger). I work with clients through harmonious collaboration. The goal is a seamless integration of the Client’s insights into actionable ideas and processes to bridge the divide between quality strategy and efficient execution.
Using organizationally-focused tools and processes that I have crafted and cultivated through my marketing and community management career, I help people and businesses streamline and focus. Driving efficient strategies to maximize growth, both externally and internally, is a significant factor in the simplification process. Utilizing digital marketing as an evolutionary force elevates the organizational outcome. For me, a harmonious client-consultant dynamic is key.
The Simplified logo is based on my support of Project Semicolon and mental health. The design instantly clicked for Simplified, especially the semicolon (as it looks like a stylized “J” for Jess), but also the four yellow circles denoting the Simplified core values of Harmony, Collaboration, Quality, and Efficiency.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The amount of support and love I’ve received from colleagues, friends, and family has been truly overwhelming in the best way. Of course, there are struggles when starting any business – budgeting, marketing, client development for instance – as a perfectionist, I expected it to be successful overnight. Obviously, it didn’t take off immediately, but having that incredible support helped me wade through the new business waters. Simplified has been growing steadily since its launch in October 2017 and I’ve learned a type of patience that I didn’t know prior. Being an entrepreneur and small business owner is no piece of cake, but it’s worth every moment to me knowing that I’m able to spend my days doing what I love with Clients I believe in.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Simplified by Jess – what should we know?
Simplified by Jess is an organizational efficiency company concentrating on brand management, event planning and digital and home organization. I’m known for making life easier for my clients – simplifying their personal and professional worlds. I can seamlessly transition from website creation to decluttering homes to planning a wedding on any given day.
What truly sets Simplified by Jess from other companies and what I’m most proud of is our Harmony Clause in our Client contracts. When I resigned from the corporate world, I came to the realization that harmony is the key to efficient and effective work. Not everyone feels this way and I certainly have received a few “No thank yous” once a potential client reviews the clause. However, the Clients who do join the Simplified family benefit greatly from this harmony clause as everyone is on the same page mentally.

Client recognizes and acknowledges that a harmonious, professional relationship is mandatory in the agreement, so as not to corrupt a productive working dynamic between Simplified and Client. Simplified and Client agree to be open to suggestions, complaints or discussions without judgment. Client agrees to follow the scheduling and timeframes approved by Client and Simplified at the commencement of a project. Simplified agrees to discuss flexibility in rescheduling any deadline at client’s request but will do so without compromising the quality or deadline of the project.

The saying “it takes a village” is no joke. It would be audacious of me to assume all of the credit for Simplified’s growth and success.
All of my family and friends have been so wonderful in their support throughout the entire process. If it weren’t for my husband, Thomas Maxson and my brother, Matthew de la Torre, the Simplified by Jess logo would not be as amazing as it is. They collaborated together to help make my dream come true in the form of my logo. Not to sound too cheesy, but my parents, Leonardo and Dolores de la Torre have always been my cheerleaders and mentors – they’ve always and only asked me to do my best throughout my life.
Interesting story, my first Client, Bon Beer Voyage, is a huge reason of how Simplified came to be. Bon Beer Voyage is a beer vacation company which also hosts beer-tasting classes in South Florida, of which I’ve been attending since I was in my early twenties. I have vivid memories of Bon Beer Voyage’s CEO, Dr. Ruth Berman, asking me to let her know when I leave corporate, so that I could come and work with them. Once I finally did leave the corporate world last year, Ruth was the first one to say “when can we get to work?”.
