Meet Jessenia Gonzalez and Jose Mena of La Vie Studios in South Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessenia Gonzalez and Jose Mena.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessenia and Jose. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We got into photography as a hobby to document our daily shenanigans. Jose was into the sneaker and fashion culture, and I was into architecture. As years passed, we each dove into wedding photography full time as our profession. It encompassed what the arts meant to us; life and color. Our paths kept crossing, and we decided to open up La Vie Studios after a late night conversation about how we love life and weddings. How we love the good and the bad, the pretty and the ugly. That’s life! C’est la vie! Hence why we named our studios La Vie.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest obstacles we’ve hit as wedding photographers is finding our voice. How do we tell a couple’s story without putting ourselves into it? The answer became apparent, and not what we expected because no matter what, we are part of their story. They chose us because they think we have a vision aligned with theirs. That’s the beauty of photography. You can show others what you see, and they can either agree or disagree with it. So to be chosen, is an honor and we are truly humbled!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a wedding photography studio that specializes in documentary style photography and editorial portraits. We shoot with the purpose to convey feeling using the special moments of the day. We’re known for framing our subjects using the context of their wedding, and prioritizing feeling over everything. It’s what we are most proud of as a company. Really delivering images that transports our couples, their guests and those who weren’t even there, to their wedding day.

What were you like growing up?
Jose and I were both class clowns growing up. Always making jokes, and playing games. We were both extremely active, playing basketball and any other sport we could get our hands on. I was really interested in cooking and building things. Jose was really into video games and hip-hop.
