Meet Jerris “QUICKThePoet” Evans of Flo’etry (FLO4Me) Ent. & QUICK2Love Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerris “QUICKThePoet” Evans.

Jerris “QUICKThePoet”, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born & raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I attended the Nova semi-private educational system (Nova Blanche Forman elementary, Middle, & graduated from Nova high school). I have been involved w/Poetry/Spoken word/Artistic live entertainment ever since the age of 10 (3rd grade). The late Mrs. Moltimore (my 3rd grade teacher) was 1 of the primary influences of my drive & ambition (even throughout high school). I focused on football to get me to college & pursue a future career in the NFL. I only wrote Poetry/Spoken word in privacy fr/10th grade & on. I graduated fr/NHS (@ the world famous Broward Center for the Performing Arts in 1997). At the end of the ceremony (impressed with the colossal globally famous arts venue), I told my mother “1 day I’d return to do something special in arts & entertainment there.”

I received a full scholarship in football to Missouri Western State College/University) & moved away to St. Joseph/Kansas City, MO. I worked my way up to becoming a 2 year captain, broke almost every (WR) record in school history, & became an all-American. I graduated MWSC/U (undergrad in Business Administration &) signed a free agent deal w/the Chicago Bears & New York Jets.

After being released by the Jets, I returned to S. FL to be w/my core family. I begin working a traditional 9-5 (Ex. Lawn Service, Customer Service, & ultimately education). I didn’t know there was an underground professional Poetry/Spoken word scene in S. FL, so I joined the Rap/Hip Hop group “South Paw.” We were together until 2007.

On a random Monday night while spending time w/a good friend (Akil Blake), he asked me if I were still into Poetry/Spoken word. After I told him “yes” he took me that same night to 1 of the most popular P.S. /W. locations (“Mellow Mondays”). That very 1st night I met HBO Def Poet Asia Samson. That visit to M.M. (Blusters/Hollywood, FL) was the PrOETić beginning to my live entertainment career.

After performing (on average 4-7 nights a week) until 2011, I started a show called “FLÓetry Sundays (1/8/12).” It quickly became 1 of the most popular shows in not only S. FL, but the S.E. region of the U.S. during its 5.5 year run (retired the show 6/4/2017). During the run, I was voted “Top Dog in FTL for Spoken word” (2013) by the Miami Times. During the 5.5 year run, I started 2 companies (FLÓetry FLO4Me Ent., LLC & QUICK2Love Foundation, Inc. ~ Nonprofit).

We attracted poets & visitors (bka “FLÓnatics” fr/nationally & internationally abroad. The show moved 10 different locations (1 of which was a stop at the beautiful Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL @ the “Piano-Hollywood) thanks to the consistency of a sold out attendance & ultimately gave me a dream opportunity to return to the world famous BCPA January 2015.

The very 1st show “AnniFLÓetry” sold out & gave birth to a summer megaFLÓ spin off called “FLÓpocalypse.” I am currently a part of the BCPA Arts Access Program (conducting workshops/presentations) & both shows are the only consistently active poetry/spoken word shows at the BCPA. Our next megaFLÓ event is scheduled to return January 26th, 2019. Tickets will go on sale on Ticketmaster starting Oct. /Nov. 2018. Getting your tickets early is strongly advised (they go very fast).

I produce 2 exclusive shows a year @ the BCPA, 1 small semi-annual show (“The4thElement” every April & October), & am the contracted (guest) host for various shows (“Let’s Speak Truth”/NSU, “Storytellers”/Miami Gardens, etc.). I am also a co-host on “TheFinalSay” online radio show. 1 of my most favorite bookings/agreements is being locked in as a motivational speaker to interact w/the youth and community.

I am now currently booked globally on avg. for 100+ private/public events/shows a year (including weddings, anniversaries, receptions, private parties, grade schools, colleges, corporate events, etc…). My favorite quote: “Never give up on the rest of your life… keep going.” I’m very ambitious, driven, & positive. I believe in the hunt for global peace.

I’m blessed & honored to live a personal dream LIFE. Regardless of the many successful achievements, my greatest accomplishment is becoming a happily married w/2 children. Family is priceless & the highest achievement nonetheless.

Has it been a smooth road?
– Hit by a car @ age 7/8
– Growing up in some of the toughest neighborhoods in FTL/S. FL.
– Being released fr/NFL (was devastating).

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Flo’etry (FLO4Me) Ent. & QUICK2Love Foundation story. Tell us more about the business.
FFENTLLC/Q2LFINC specialize in live entertainment shows both public & private. They are driven on the basis of creating global peace & love thru the understanding of truth, loyalty, & unity.

My relentlessness to be better than who I was the day before is what sets me apart fr/others. I’m very humbled & confused (not on competing against others but primarily myself).

My ambition is the root to my soul.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see myself becoming one of the most supportive and hardworking professional poets/hosts to every grace the planet. I’m a lover of unity & positive interactions. I believe in 5-10 years I will additionally do things never done by any other poet. I can’t tell you because they are all a surprise 😉 . #StayFLOLifeTuned
