Meet Ixamar Palumbo of Ixamar Palumbo Photography in Doral

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ixamar Palumbo.

Ixamar, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story begins with a radio booth listening to Spanish love songs while my mom worked her magic as one of Miami’s top female DJ’s. Music was a driving force and major influence in my life as it slowly guided me to where I am now.

Today, I’m the Social Media Specialist for the Latin GRAMMY Awards and working in what I never realized would now be my dream job. My true love, however, has always been photography. I picked up my first SLR body and lens back in 2007 from a dusty bin in my mother’s garage. She had completely forgotten about it so I immediately took custody of it. I cleaned it up, repaired a few parts, and added some film. I took my first and only photography class during my sophomore year in high school and here was where I was introduced to the beauty of film. I’m a 90’s baby, so I was fortunate enough to be raised in a time where we still had to wait for dial-up and film required 3-4 days to fully come to life. Instant gratification was non-existent. Learning the time that it took to develop one single image gave me a new appreciation for this time-consuming, but very fulfilling art.

Upon completing my first photography class, I began taking headshots of all my classmates around the school in 2008. I was a musical theatre nerd on a mission to make this new-found hobby a side hustle. One year after launching my small business, I began booking events and engagements. I shot my first fashion show at 18 and engagement session at 19. From that moment on, I knew I was made for this world. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph families and weddings all over Miami and run my photography business 24/7 along with all the amazing opportunities I’m currently working on.

Like a true Gemini, I easily get bored and never stay still. On September 2016, I launched my new business, The Wandertog, a Food and Travel blog highlighting the best eats and events around the world. This new venture has allowed working with some incredible brands around the world, helping them drive consumers and audiences to their social platforms and B&M locations through influencer marketing along with content creation through photo shoots and promo videos. It’s been a beautiful journey so far and it’s only the beginning.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest challenge during my years as a photographer was jumping into weddings. It was intimidating and exciting all at the same time. Sometimes, as artists, we end up being our own worst critic and never push ourselves out of fear of failing those that are entrusting their memories to us. It was a huge jump to make, but luckily I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some incredible humans in this industry that have allowed me to work alongside their teams during weddings and events. This was the positive motivation I needed to break out into one of the biggest industries out there. I’m a huge advocate for women empowering women and the importance of community over competition, so networking and meeting everyone who was in this world allowed me to come out of the dark and into this incredibly fun world of wedding photography. Today, it’s one of my favorite events to shoot!

Please tell us about Ixamar Palumbo Photography.
I’m a photographer and digital marketing specialist. My company not only focuses on creating memories for your family but also helping your small-businesses grow within the digital spectrum. My specialties include weddings, engagements, maternity, boudoir, family, and event photography. Wherever I can be behind the lens, I’ll feel at home and make sure you have the time of your life. My goal is to show the beauty, grace, strength and enthusiasm of people. My shoots are fun and relaxing, with guidance along the way to keep you comfortable and at ease. I love capturing long gazes between lovers and warm smiles among loved ones.

My motto: live fearlessly, think audaciously and act spontaneously. Life is individually unique, dynamic, and wholly unpredictable – it’s an exciting challenge to explore it through photography.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Life is a constant learning experience and the list goes on with things I could have done differently. One thing is certain, I wouldn’t change the good, the bad, and the ugly for a smoother ride. Every moment has led me to where I am today and I feel incredibly fortunate to be doing what I love. Could I have jumped into weddings sooner? Sure. Would I have been more successful if I had focused more on my own business strategy? For sure. I’m pretty much winging every step that I take in order to fully enjoy the ride and I think many in the business can relate.
