Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella “Bella” Behar.
Isabella, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The first time I touched down in Miami, I fell immediately in love with the city, its energy, its vibe and I simply loved everything about it. I moved to the United States in 2011 to work as an Assistant Professor at a college in Washington State but my heart was in Miami the entire time. I was overjoyed when I learned that I got accepted for an MBA program here. Ever since I have been living here, I have tried to explore every single corner of the city even the ones off the beaten path not only the popular spots. In the beginning, I would write posts on social media until I started receiving so many messages from people asking me for recommendations and asking me how I even find all these spots. People that have lived here all their life hadn’t heard about some of the hidden gems I found. I started writing reviews on Yelp and other sites until I decided to create my platform for my passion. This is when my blog Miami Mi Amor was born.
Things changed when I had my firstborn in 2018. As a working mom, I did not have a lot of time to write long blog posts and visit restaurants. But ever since my son was two months old, I started looking for events and things to do in Miami with a baby. You would be surprised how many “mommy and me classes” and other family friendly activities are out there. I met a lot of like-minded mom bloggers and “momfluencers” and attended a lot of networking events for Miami Moms. I started heavily using my Instagram as a platform where I collaborate with brands that reach out to me to introduce me to their baby products. Additionally, I converted my Miami Mi Amor blog to the Miami Mami Blog. I do not only use my voice to write about events or products but also to educate new parents-to-be. I remember that when I was pregnant there were so many things I did not know about having kids which are why I love this community where we help each other out.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is not easy to find the time to create a business on the side while working full-time with a baby. And with Instagram constantly changing its algorithm, it is sometimes not easy to put your content out there. But you will find a way if you are passionate about something.
Please tell us about your work.
The Miami Mami is a platform where I write about my own experiences to help parents-to-be, where I inform other Miami Moms about great family-friendly events going on and where I give tips and mom hacks with some sense of humor. I acknowledge that it is not easy to raise kids but want to inspire people to live a fulfilling life.
One of my main goals is to teach moms that self-care is important. You cannot pour from an empty cup. To take care of others, you have to be taken care of first. I want to convey the message that just because you are a parent, your life does not have to end. You can still have fun and be glamorous all while being a good parent. I want to show that you can have it all – work, be a woman and do a lot of fun activities with your kids.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is when the family got together during the holidays for a nice dinner and a fun night of games afterward.
