Meet Ian Gerada of Connectica in Tamarac

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Gerada.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Connectica is a South Florida-based digital marketing company. It was originally started in South Africa in the early 1990s as one of the first Internet service providers in the region. We provided website hosting and design, as well as Internet access and encryption services to small and medium-sized businesses. Connectica quickly grew to be a prominent technology partner in the television and telecommunications world where encryption services were in high demand. In 1999, I was allowed to work for a large telecommunications company in the United States which landed me in Fort Lauderdale—and I was thrilled! I’d found my home!

Corporate America was good to me and I enjoyed my work, but I was never able to shake the feeling of wanting to do something else. Then, the Dotcom bubble burst. I’d always wanted to be involved with online software and run my own company again, I wanted to “live the American dream,” so to speak.

In February 2012, I decided it was time to leave corporate America for the private sector. I like to refer to this period as Connectica’s “rebirth.” It was a company that specialized in search engine optimization. Since 2012, we have grown to incorporate and offer a wide range of services that include website design and maintenance, search engine optimization, specialized content creation, social media marketing, digital video production, graphic design, and geo-location services currently being used by companies like Hulu and LogMeIn.

What sets us apart from others in our industry is Connectica’s ability to offer a full range of digital marketing services in-house. Since the company’s rebirth, we have been successfully serving our clients with authentic, first-class service. Because we’re a small company, we pride ourselves on the relationships we cultivate with them. There are no automatic answering machines or maze of options to go through. Whether your website needs a quick fix, you’re struggling with a technical issue, or if you just have a question, we will always be able to get back to you promptly. At Connectica, we care. If it’s personal for you, then it’s personal for us.

Today, Connectica employs six full-time employees who specialize in various areas of the digital marketing world as well as 30 writers and content creators who produce more than 100 pieces of original, authoritative, creative, and exciting content for our various clients every month.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest challenge to starting and running our digital marketing company was “how to get clients.” As a relatively unknown company, it’s always difficult to find clients and get your name out there. We started small and through word-of-mouth became our primary medium of marketing ourselves and managed to land a small yet profitable client.

Having one client was simply not going to cut it, we had to find another way of growing our customer base. The Connectica website started to rank for “web design company” and “SEO company” in the local area, however, the biggest break we got was when we joined the local chamber of commerce. This gave us a perfect audience—small business owners who are wanting to grow their business. We also managed to meet with quite a few city officials and landed two contracts doing video production as well as ADA (American Disabilities Act) mitigation for various cities in South Florida.

Please tell us about your business.
Connectica specializes in search engine optimization, website design, video production and ADA (American Disability Act) mitigation of websites as well as reputation management.

When it comes to SEO, Connectica is known for producing excellent results that keep customers ranking well for targeted Google searches. Our flagship product is most certainly our original, compelling, and authoritative content.

Connectica currently employs just over 30 freelance writers who produce consistent content for each of our customers.

We have developed a content management system that checks each article for plagiarism that also incorporates a grading system, before getting to the client for approval.

It’s our attention to detail and non-outsourcing policy that sets us apart from the competition. When our phone rings a live person answers; there are no automated answering machines, just that personal touch.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to us means a happy customer that is achieving, if not exceeding, their goals. We measure this success through the Connectica dashboard, where our customers can view how well they are ranking on Google or how well their online reputation has improved since choosing us as their digital marketing company.
