Meet Horacio and Elizabeth Ramirez of Puerto Vallarta Mexican Bar & Grill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Horacio and Elizabeth Ramirez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Horacio and Elizabeth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I spent many of my childhood years in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. Located in Mexico’s Pacific coast I grew up on my grandmother’s homemade meals and the fresh seafood the coast had to offer.

When I arrived in South Florida, I decided to put this knowledge to use and opened one of the first Mexican and Seafood restaurants in Homestead. Our authentic flavors and original recipes have lead to many years of success. 16 to be exact. This inspired me to open another location in the Florida Keys.

We opened our second location in Key Largo. The tourists and locals helped make this location a success as well, but after 5 amazing years, my family and I decided to relocate further south to Islamorada. The bigger building has allowed us to obtain a full liquor license and we also have a catering room for private events.

We are a family owned and operated business. My wife and I manage the Homestead location while our daughters help us run the Islamorada restaurant.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Before we opened our Homestead location, we used to run a food truck.

We specialized in tacos and other Mexican entrees. Making the switch from running a taco truck to owning a restaurant was definitely a learning experience. From filing permits to renovating the building, we certainly had our work cut out for us. Thankfully we did something right because 16 years later we’re still going strong.

We decided to open a second location in the Florida Keys and also had some bumps along the way but we were able to handle them with ease

Puerto Vallarta Mexican Bar & Grill – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our restaurants specialize in two cuisines. Mexican and Seafood. We have been able to make some unique and flavorful dishes combining the two, such as the Seafood Burrito, Enchiladas Vallarta, and Combo Fajitas. Some customer favorites include our Seafood Soup, Ceviche and our variety of fajitas. We pride ourselves in using fresh ingredients and having everything homemade. From our sauces to our broths to our pico de gallo salsa and habanero hot sauce.
