Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather McMechan.
Heather, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After having my first child, I couldn’t find any resources that shared local family-friendly event information. I wanted to take my child to a fun interactive event and be back for naptime. So, I started doing some research and created LocalMomScoop.com sharing just local South Florida events for moms.
But then things changed. When I was asked to partner with Bloomingdale’s Boca Raton Town Center Mall, I decided I wanted to host a fashion event for moms. In my pre-mommy life, I was a personal shopper. So, this was exciting to create! The presentation was about how to wear fall fashion in South Florida. Needless to say, it was a huge success and after posting about it on Facebook (no Instagram yet) my brand exploded.
Now after six years, Local Mom Scoop has grown into a lifestyle blog sharing all the latest scoop on local events, fashion, dining, parenting and travel. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing brands like Disney, Universal, Norwegian Cruiselines, Macy’s, and Ford Motor Company. But my main focus is being a hyperlocal mom blogger and I’ve been able to work with local brands like Jungle Island, JW Marriott Marquis Miami, Brightline and Frost Museum of Science. I host a Facebook Live/IGTV show called Live from The Kitchen and also Carline Conversations sharing local mom scoop. There is so much in the future for Local Mom Scoop and I can’t wait to see what happens in 2020.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. With something that once was a passion, I had to change my mindset and become a business person. Knowing my worth and monetizing my business, I had to put a lot of systems in place. I not only had to learn to manage my business but also my family.
Tell us about your work.
There are a lot of websites now sharing local event information. What sets me apart from other local bloggers is I share the ups and downs of motherhood. I’m not afraid to share the behind the scenes of my life, amazing experiences but also the tough parenting times. I try to be relatable to my followers. A mom friend they can trust. I may be on a step and repeat at a fabulous event and sharing it on my Instagram Stories one moment and my next story is me sharing how I came home from the event and no one is in bed yet. The juggle is real when it comes to motherhood. I try to give information that moms want to know about and usually what I’m experiencing.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the vibe in Miami. It has so much to offer families when it comes to culture, food and experiences. I hate the traffic.
