Today we’d like to introduce you to Hagia.
Hagia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, in 2015, I took up painting and sculpting and it instantly became more than just a hobby. I worked alongside Creative direction Dope&Gold to start the Youth Concept Gallery. The Youth Concept Gallery is a collective of creatives who do youth outreach to spread a positive light in urban communities through art. A year later, I grew more fond of songwriting and eventually, I found myself searching for a professional studio. After the first word I spoke into the mic, I was hooked. I knew it was my passion as if it was meant to be. I dropped my first full studio EP ‘Scar Club’ in September of 2018. It was a big challenge and a bit of experience, but the entire process was fun for me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely was not smooth the creative process is a challenge within itself. A little less than a year before the release of my project, I was in an accident that had a negative impact on my health and finances. I feel as though everyone experiences some form of doubt or hindrance from outside forces or lack of resources, but staying consistent and having faith has always gotten me over any struggle.
Please tell us about Hagia.
My goal is to be able to continuously grow in all my crafts. I paint, write, sing, and creative direction. I capitalize my singing out of most because creatively it is my one true love. My art life is more intimate because I paint mostly for myself now and my outreach is a form of activism for children’s therapy through art. I am most proud of the lives I have been able to positively affect with my creations and love. I talk to a lot of children who have had rough lives and I try my best to speak love and light into them. I try to do this with my music also. Being as vulnerable as possible can through it all to make the children I meet, or the people who listen to me sing, feel like we are holding hands walking a familiar road to healing together.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
To learn more, be better than who I am today, and keep succeeding.
