Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Casanas.
Angelica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been athletic and had a passion for staying active. I worked with a personal trainer for many years to keep in good shape, feel good, and lose weight and get my figure back after my pregnancy.
I did some modeling, bartended, worked for a commercial real estate company for a few years. I was able to take a step back, and think about what I really wanted to do, and decided to pursue a career as a Personal Trainer.
I started my Personal Training career at Equinox. I developed my skills, knowledge, and discipline from one of the best companies in the industry. I no longer work there; and have taken with me a great deal of knowledge and skill to help clients achieve their fitness goals and get results safely and effectively.
I am currently training people in Coral Gables, South Miami, and West Miami area.
Monday through Friday, I coach at Another Level Fit located at 895 SW 67 Ave a CrossTraining class at 10:30 am near Coral Gables.
Mondays and Wednesday at 8:30 pm, Saturdays at 9:30 am – I guide you through a full-body workout known as the “Get Fine(R) Program” we focus on lower body exercises, upper body, and core. This class is a weight training class with mostly women.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I initially was really excited about becoming a trainer!
Like any business, you have to produce; sometimes that can be tough. When you work for yourself, you have to find your own clientele. Word of mouth helps!
There’s times where my one-on-one training has been slow. I use this time to educate myself, reorganize, and market myself.
My group classes have grown. At first, it was really hard to get people to show up. It took a long time. I find most people think if you post an event people will show up… Uh nope. It’s not easy.
I want to let people know my class exists, and you don’t have to train with that “go go go“ mentality like high interval training; and then leave tired or get hurt. It’s physically possible for you to perform all the movements and keep good form.
Please tell us about Get FineR Program.
I am known for getting women in shape using my program that gets you stronger; looking and feeling FineR. You will feel powerful. We train with purpose; I live this. With my Get FineR Program… there’s no other training like this out there. I mix both of barbell movements (functional training) that keep you safe and train effectively in a group setting. I specialize in weight training with barbell and kettlebells; no machines necessary. Women usually get a little intimidated to go heavy and scared they would look too muscular, but you will not look muscular; you will be the best version of you.
I love seeing my clients improve and that I have changed their life. To be able to perform the exercises and changing their mindset from I want to lose weight (aesthetics) to I want to perform that movement correctly, and increase my numbers… the rest falls into place. When they overcome fear to jump on the box or their first pull-up. All this translates into their lives and its life-changing!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I could have done it differently or better. I wish I would have started at a younger age; God had a different path for me.
I didn’t want to be another “model” or “Instagram Model” training people. It was important for me to get certified, and I learned from the best in the industry. I was recruited by Equinox. They put a lot of effort into training you, working there is really hard, and intense – both as a trainer and in “sales”. I was blown away by the knowledge the senior trainers, and their support for those willing to learn. After I left, I continued to learn from others in my industry.
