Meet Tremaine Bracey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tremaine Bracey.

Tremaine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I go by Traecasso or Frasss. I am 29 years old from Barbados and I was born on May 11th so that makes me sign a Taurus but that does not define me or puts a limit on my personality. I am the Father of a wonderful seven-year-old boy named Jailen which is my pride and joy! I’ve always had a passion for photography, I just wasn’t aware of it at the time. But in 2010, when I was about to give up on school and call it quits, I was taking an art appreciation class and it opened my eyes to many different types of art. In that class, I was exposed to contemporary art, installation art and sculptures as well as graffiti and paintings even music and performing arts. Seeing all these forms of art made me realize that art is not only what the outcome of what you make but its also the thought process and the way it is made.

So, I tried painting and drawing and even a little bit of graffiti and writing music but I just wasn’t getting it the way I wanted to. But when my professor got to the lesson on photography and the history and the mechanics of the camera, it just blew my mind! I mean I’ve always taken photographs and saw photographs but I never saw it in detail the way I did in that class. I immediately started thinking to myself that if I had the tools that I could have the potential at being pretty good at photography.

So, I took the first step in pursuing my passion for photography and that was applying to the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. I ended up attending the art institute for a year and a half. But due to unforeseen circumstances, I have not completed my courses in pursuit of a degree. However, I have accomplished some self goals that I set for myself while in school! I’ve managed to be apart of several local art shows in Broward and Miami so far and I have even gone as far as hosting my solo showcase! Nine years into photography and I have gained so much knowledge, confidence and life experience and there is so much more to learn and explore that I am looking forward to!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t say that I’ve had any major struggles or obstacles along the way thus far. Besides me feeling like I’m my competition or obstacle sometimes, I think I’m pretty set. Overthinking has probably been the only thing that has ever set me back. So, I have to constantly remind myself to just do and not think too much on something for too long. Everything that I’ve done that I’ve imagined in my head has either came out exactly how I imagine it or surpassed my expectations! But in that same breath, I’ve overthought a process for a shot and got overwhelmed with just the thought! And ended up not getting it done.

Please tell us about your company.
FrasssVisuals is my photography based company and I pretty much take care of all photographic needs from events to maternity shoots. Even though I can photograph a wide variety of subjects. I’d say I specialize in City, landscape and people photography as well as chasing sunsets and sunrises. I’m most proud of the outcome of my photographs and the emotion that triggers within the viewers that look at my work. I’d say what sets me apart from others is not just the story told behind each image but what you feel when you look at one of my pictures. Some think my pictures are paintings because it may look so surreal, others think my photographs may have been taken in a place they are familiar with when in fact it wasn’t! For example, I have one photograph from Barbados that too many viewers thought was in their home country or another country because the vibe that the image gave off.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood would have to be the summer I spent in Germany when I was 13. Being exposed to a new time zone, a new language and food were insane! It was probably the best time of my life, especially since I had no real responsibility.
