Meet Eyla Cuenca of Eyla Cuenca Contemporary Birth Services in Little River

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eyla Cuenca.

Eyla, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from Los Angeles and lived in Santa Cruz and New York before I settled in Miami a few years ago. I studied Visual Anthropology at Bennington College and worked as a documentary photographer for a decade before I completed specialized training in the various birth services I offer now.

Has it been a smooth road?
There can be challenges in every road we take because we are always battling ego.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Eyla Cuenca Contemporary Birth Services story. Tell us more about the business.
My practice connects women, parents, children and anyone curious to learn more about alternative paths to well known, but not well understood destinations. I offer Bradley Method Childbirth Education classes, Birth Doula Services, Documentary Birth Photography and Placenta Encapsulation. My clientele includes people from all walks of life and I enjoy that very much.

Education surrounding pregnancy, birth and the 4th Trimester, or Postpartum period, is so key in laying a strong ground work for babies, parents and the lifelong connection they hope to forge. The services I offer are tailored to the client whether they hope to birth in a hospital, birth center or at home. The approach is professional but intimate and truly special.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
People are becoming more aware of their connection to the experience of birth and pregnancy. We lost touch for about 150 years, but now we are returning to ancient practices because they work. Doulas are making a big comeback. Statistically a doula can increase the chances of having a natural birth by 63%. On some levels it’s unfortunate that we are getting birth education through social media, however; it’s also connecting us and creating a conversation for expectant mothers and women across the board.

Thank you Kim Kardashian for consuming your placenta! It’s a highly beneficial thing for mom and baby.
