Meet Elle Jimenez of Miami’s Mermaid Elle in Broward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elle Jimenez.

Elle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I come from a performer’s background. I was always dancing, acting and modeling. I own an entertainment business and built my clientele for event entertainment. I included kid’s party entertainment and I performed impersonating Disney princesses and costumed characters. The opportunity presented itself to become a mermaid performer. I performed at many events and fell in love with my job! I really wanted to develop my character “Mermaid Elle” into a public figure to promote ocean conservation and make wishes come true. I own a silicone mermaid tail that is very realistic which is a very important part in portraying a real mermaid. I love to be as realistic as possible. I got scuba certified and trained in freediving. I dive in my mermaid tail in the ocean and love to make videos on everything that goes on behind the life of a professional mermaid. Little did I know a year and a half ago that I would become Miami’s #1 Mermaid performer working kid’s parties and corporate events, doing mermaid exhibits, meet and greets, freediving in the ocean and even appearing on TV on DECO DRIVE, performing in music videos such as “Drowning” by well-known artist A Boogie with a Hoodie and Kodak Black. Also “Never Let You Go” music video by famous DJ Dillon Francis coming this July 11th. I am on the cover on Deerfield Beach Magazine for July/August issue next month!

I think it is so important to maintain children’s imagination intact and keep the wonder in their hearts. I am a mom and I know how amazing a child must feel to meet a real mermaid in person! Even adults! I currently am also teaching mermaid swimming lessons with AquaMermaid South Florida school and very much enjoy teaching the skills that it takes to swim like a mermaid. Although it seems graceful and beautiful, it is quite difficult to learn the technique and skills of underwater performance.

My goal is to keep promoting my character as Mermaid Elle and become a voice of awareness to the rest of the world about the condition of our oceans and what we can do to protect it and help keep it healthy, and also a voice for the children who’s imagination is sky high and to show them you can really become anything they dream of if they believe they can.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest struggle! Can you keep a mermaid’s secret? This mermaid was always scared of the water! I loved performing as Mermaid Elle and after only a few times of acting this character I realized I needed to learn to swim with a mermaid tail! Swimming had never been my forte! It took me 3 months of practice, some training and a lifeguard certification to feel 100% comfortable in the water. I figured if I could swim and also learn how to save lives as a lifeguard, then that must help me so much at swimming in the water. It took me a little while to get the hang of it. Now, I am so comfortable in the water! I love to swim in my mermaid tail and I have overcome every fear!

Miami’s Mermaid Elle – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I offer entertainment for events such as weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, etc. but specialize in mermaid entertainment. I perform as Mermaid Elle in Miami, Broward, and West Palm and beyond! I do mermaid swimming shows and meet and greet. Synchronized swimming shows, mermaid stunt work for productions, photoshoots and more! I am proud to say that I am very well known as a realistic mermaid offering “The Realistic Mermaid Experience” for events and more.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is finding happiness in what you do and achieving your dream through hard work! I am always looking for new ideas as an entertainer, how to grasp my audience attention and how to make them like this character I’ve created. Being a specialty performer there’s something very unique about the work I can provide. Many may see it as captivating, a special talent, and an act. It is important to me that my audience falls in love with the character and that I can prove to them that being a mermaid performer is not all that weird….it’s really mer-mazing! 🙂
