Meet Dylan Rodney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Rodney.

Dylan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been working at Walmart since late 2018 as a department manager. I was in video editing and filming prior to my job but I needed something to keep me afloat and an income to buy the tools and essentials I would need to grow within my self and, make a gateway. Mid-year of 2019, I quit my job of almost three years to do something I’ve always wanted too. I purchased my first 4K filming camera I started going to many local events free of charge and, doing short recap videos and posting them to social media page. Shortly in the months to come, people began to reach out to me about bookings and coming to there events and creating promotion videos & recaps for their events. I was determined to expand opportunities and had decided that I would always get into the photography field as well. I went out, I bought a camera (canon t6 rebel) and I reached out to a select few and I did a number of shoots free of charge to build a profile and I was good. People didn’t have any negative comments. I was able to create a flyer and turn my Instagram into a bunnies account. I grew my audience by almost 1,500 followers within a month, my email is full and social media page, full as well with people wanting my services. I was able to do photos and videos for a wedding just this past week. But now, just going forward, I’m going to need a team, a production team to join me so with more trusted people, we can grow and reach even better opportunities. Right now, I’m working alongside a promotion team, they have really been a big help in this journey (EJ, Dj Redwood, Jazzy Jeff, Dj Diversity and my whole Brother Ville Team), the future is bright and I’m ready to meet new heights.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The fact that I quit my job, I would say funding and being able to get the right tools and essentials I needed to get my task done. I sometimes cooked and sold plates of food locally.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about it?
Well, my business is mostly promotional and recap video-based and now, I have added photography in the last few months. I am known for event recap videos of numerous events. The most thing I am proud of so far is the journey and how far I have come without losing hope or giving up. What makes me different is I don’t have a team just yet, that contributes the same amount of energy and time I put in so I really have done this safe to say on my own.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is a goal you have set for yourself, it doesn’t have to be major, it can be something small. If you are able to accomplish something you’ve always wanted to, you should consider it a success but people mistake that and think you need wealth and fame. Success is any goals you have accomplished.
