Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Luciana Ravazzi.
Dr. Ravazzi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a dentist native from Brazil. I graduated as a dentist in Brazil in 1993, when I was only twenty years old.
Being a second generation dentist in my family, I had the opportunity to be mentored by my father and had worked with him ever since I finished dental school in Sao Paulo. In 2001, my husband and I won the US visa lottery and then we’ve decided to move to Miami. Little did I know, how much change in our lives this moving was going to make.
Right after we moved, I started working as a Dental Assistant at the Prosthodontic Dentistry of South Florida- Sharp Dentistry. I was fortunate enough to then meet Dr. Bruno Sharp, who became a great friend and my second mentor. I was accepted into an International Dental Program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 2005 where I obtained my dental degree (D.D.S.) in 2007.
We had the opportunity to return to Miami where I restarted working in Sharp Dentistry as an Associate.
I have been happily working as a full-time dentist in Miami since 2007.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road was difficult and arduous. Having to go back to study all the Basic Sciences in English was not an easy task as I thought it would be.
At the time, I was studying to take the National Dental Boards of Dentistry, I was working as a full-time dental assistant. Every single minute of evenings, weekends and holidays were 100% dedicated to my studies. I did not allow myself to any day off until I accomplished my goal of being accepted as a dental student in an accredited dental school in the US.
After taking those boards and all the requested English exams, I started applying to all dental schools I could.
The competition was intense and the process very stressful. I am very honored to my alma mater USC (University of Southern California-Los Angeles) for my acceptance. Will be forever grateful.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Prosthodontic Dentistry of South Florida- Sharp Dentistry – what should we know?
I have been working as a full-time Associate Dentist at Prosthodontic Dentistry of South Florida/Sharp Dentistry since 2007.
I have experience in General, Cosmetic and Aesthetic Dentistry, 3D CAD/CAM technology (crowns in one day), crowns over implants, oral rehabilitation, Invisalign, veneers (porcelain laminates), teeth whitening and root canals, providing services to adults and children.
What I love about Sharp Dentistry is that we have all dental specialists under the same roof. Whenever we need to consult a specialist, we have them all available in our office with state-of-the-art technology.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest supporters were my parents Ayrton and Dalva Esmeraldo, my brother Alexandre, my husband Jorge Ravazzi, my mentor Bruno Sharp and close friends.
