Meet Denise Castro of Virtual Mom Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Castro.

Denise, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a Cuban American who currently resides in Miami, Florida. Mother to a two-year-old named, Anthony Michael and pregnant with my second baby. I am the founder and owner of Virtual Mom Collective and Dac Mac Photography. I’m an active Mom blogger published by Scary Mommy, Motherhood: The Real Deal, The Manifestation, BossMomCrew and The Selkie UK. I  hold a dual BFA in Photography and Graphic Design and Marketing and Business Management, and soon an MBA in Leadership from Florida International University.

I am passionate about empowering Moms to speak about their own stories; my own journey into Motherhood is what sparked my venture into writing. I am a huge advocate for gender equality in the workplace for women. Treating gender diversity like the business priority it is, helps promote self-worth empowerment for working Mothers. The Virtual Mom Collective was founded on this principle.

Has it been a smooth road?
As a woman returning to the workforce after brief maternity leave, I tackled many challenges along the way. My struggle in launching my blog and continuing my photography business was a very difficult transition. Connecting all the pieces, all while being a new Mom, was a very hard and tenuous juggle. Eventually by working through the challenges and reaching out to other Moms, I found a rhythm that worked for me. These challenges are what fueled my mission to help other working mothers returning to the workforce. We are not supported enough during our postpartum period when returning to the workforce. I want to let Moms out there know they are not alone, and your Mom tribe starts with you; because Mother is a Verb.

Virtual Mom Collective – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As previously mentioned VMC empowers its Mothers. Their voices, their journey, and careers truly matter to us. Making them the center of our organization promotes self-worth empowerment for all of those who join and become part of it. The Virtual Mom Collective was founded on this principle. Created by two working Moms, the VMC is a platform of support and community which enables Moms to speak their truths during #thisnewnormal. We host monthly webinars, congruent events, and a blog that publishes voices of our Mothers. VMC gives back to our community by partnering and donating to local nonprofits that seek to better the welfare of mothers and children.

Our webinars are for Moms by Moms. We highlight their Motherhood, empower them to speak openly on their expert topics and help promote their business. Our monthly events range from chats with women life coaches, food bloggers, woman entrepreneurs, motivational speakers and yoga instructors. All of which are available to our community and bring great benefits to our Moms. We are uniquely for the Mom who seeks support and community during quarantine. We offer support and direct engagement every month to our Mom community and welcome them with an open heart and mind.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Covid-19 has transformed the various cities within Miami Dade County. My business has managed to bring down barriers created by location and allowing virtual connectivity from anywhere in the State of Florida to the world. Virtual connection has created a universal collective for the VMC. We are doing the best we can under the current circumstances.
