Meet DeVon Eric Dennard in Miami Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeVon Eric Dennard.

DeVon a.k.a. DeMo was born and raised in Detroit Michigan, home of Motown. He developed hearing difficulties as an infant. Son of Eric and Jannet Dennard singers and actors of the groups, The Motif and Peddy Players. He is also the nephew of Quentin Wayne Dennard one of the drummers for The Temptations and the Supremes. DeVon was born in the musical environment. Eventually, as he got older his mother would have to relocate to Miami due to his ears. After his surgery, he would gain his hearing which would allow him to grow into his Southern charm and absorb that into R&B and Hip-Hop music .

Starting a rap group in high school of 1993 called RSE Raw Soulz Est. With DJ Suga Ray (Ray Chambers). They opened up for major groups like wu-tang clan Notorious BIG & Outkast. After graduating high school, they would part ways and DeVon would move to Los Angeles. Living in Long Beach, he would now gain a West Coast vibe to add to his style. Now with 3 different major cities, cultures, style and techniques “Demo” was born, able to be a lyricist from Detroit with a down south Miami style and then adding on the west coast swag mixed with a neo soul jazzy feel to it… to make his style complete.

Demo is able to sing, rap and compose music all on his own with the help of his cousin Quentin Dennard, Cudda Brown, Jimmy (Awon) and Silk just to name a few who helped produce his music. Demo just has the utmost respect for Neo soul R&B, Jazz and Hip Hop. Enjoying artist such as Anita Baker, Lionel Richie, The Temptations, A Tribe called Quest, Busta Rhymes, Mos Def, Mint Condition and Earth, Wind and Fire, George Clinton Erykah Badu and Bebe CeCe Winans. Tragically in the year 2014, Demo would lose his hearing becoming deaf completely. After having surgery and being able to save one of his ears with the help of a hearing aid, Demo decided to change his music direction to gospel. With all these attributes, let’s see what DeMo brings to the world.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Very rough because of my disability of being 95% deaf and I suffer from vertigo. So, I have too work 10 times harder for me to keep up with regular artist.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business and brand is me, Demo Dennard Song writer… gospel artist who sings neo soul, jazz, hip hop and RnB. Actor and host… and modeling.

What were you like growing up?
I was a fun kid… I loved smiling and laughing. I was always silly. I always had a huge heart and family came first.
