Meet Debrah Sutherland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debrah Sutherland.

Debrah, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Before graduating six years ago from Florida International University, my academic path towards a legal career led to my interest in real estate. All I knew was that I wanted to take on a path where I had the opportunity to help others and provide for my elderly father, who had already survived a stroke and heart attack by that time.

I learned a great deal about real estate as a legal assistant for foreclosure and estate planning firms, but it was those closest to me who encouraged my career move. Relatives and friends relocating from Jamaica, Canada, and New York would constantly reach out for my advice on their bad house-hunting experiences. Eventually, I got frustrated enough on their behalf that I decided to take on real estate as my livelihood.

After getting licensed, I received amazing leadership from veteran real estate agents. Great training and confidence led me to close $13M+ in sales transactions and build a growing team of successful agents. For me, this is still just the beginning.

Has it been a smooth road?
Ha! That’s funny. Absolutely, not! I’ve encountered a scam artist who tried to illegally rent out someone else’s property and collect rent as the landlord. I’ve seen buyers and renters become victims of identity theft in the middle of a transaction. Clients have even shared stories about “realtors” who collected money for housing and disappeared with their money leaving them to start over or nearly become homeless. Trust me, real estate is definitely not for the weak-hearted.

Tell us more about the business.
I am brokered under the growing 16+ year legacy of PRA & Company Realtors where I specialize in residential real estate sales and rentals within the state of Florida. My sister company, Grand Preservation, a source for full-service home renovations is the hands-on side of the business.

Most of my clients look to our team as a one-stop-shop for trustworthy referrals, local homebuyer program information, and general real estate knowledge. The community is a huge part of “MY WHY”, so being able to provide value and maintain strong relationships is the greatest blessing. I am super excited about the virtual homebuyer course we’ll be launching! For now, people can pre-register (flyer pictured below), but I will definitely share more details soon!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Consistency and communication are key. If I wasn’t true to who I am and didn’t regularly check in on my clients (as I would do with my own family) then, my business wouldn’t be built from referrals.
