Meet Daya Mauricia of Be Unbeweaveable in North Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daya Mauricia.

Daya, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hi guys, my name is Daya. I’m Dutch and was born in the Netherlands. After meeting my current partner during a holiday in USA I moved to Miami. Starting a business has quit been an adventure after months of debating whether I should start my own business or not, I decided to go for it. Together with my partner, I left in September 2014 to visit India. Traveling around India in a yellow Tuk-Tuk, we finally found what we were looking for, Exclusive Raw Indian Hair. I arrived back in The Netherlands with 10-kilo hair but without a company name. My preference was something memorable and luckily, my creative friend Nilson came up with the name Be unbeweaveable.

To launch my company, I organized a Weave Party, where visitors could get to know Be unbeweaveable while enjoying drinks, bites and doing make-up/hair. The Weave Party was a huge success. And because I visited several companies in Rotterdam City to collect products for my Goodie Bag, the manager of Beauty Store ICI Paris, gave me the opportunity to showcase my products in the store once a week. That was an awesome opportunity. Besides running an online store, I also expanded my online business with Wig Workshops ‘Wig making with Be unbeweaveable’.

This is the ultimate chance for females and males to learn all ins-and-outs of Wig making. Think about bleaching the knots, Customizing the closure, track placement, difference between various wig caps, lace types and tips and tricks. I would also love to mentor ladies who would love to start their own business. I enjoy teaching my skills to others. My job is my passion and I’m happy for taking the leap of faith.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but worth it. India was an impressive experience; it’s very crowded and chaotic on the road. I contacted several companies before my visit to set up appointments. We visited various companies for ten days this was very interesting. In the end I choose a company that was not on my list but recommended by my Tuk-tuk driver. Everything was very neat, organized and they were very transparent about the production process. As soon as I saw the hair, I knew this was it.

In India, it’s quite difficult to do business when being a woman, females are unfortunately not equal to men. I had to get used to this since I’m from a from a Western country. The fact my supplier met me in person, makes them respect me as a businesswoman. Another struggle is the fact that there is a lot of competition in the Weave business, especially from Chinese companies. They offer very low prices and advertise that the hair they sell is Raw. But luckily, I found my niche and my customers understand the process behind real Raw Indian Hair

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Be unbeweaveable is specialized in selling Raw Indian Hair bundles, Closures, Frontals and Custom wigs. For me, it was very important to provide my customers with the Best Hair quality and to meet my supplier in person. India is the only country where Raw Hair is available in big quantities since the hair is being offered as a sacrifice in temples.

I’m very proud of the fact that I’ve been to India and this sets me apart from others. I’m also known for having a big afro and promoting healthy natural hair. A lot of times people think you can’t have both, but my goal is to make customers appreciate being natural and wearing Wigs or Weave. This is why I also started a YouTube Channel, where besides Raw Indian Hair videos I also share natural Hair Care tips and hotspots in Miami.

I’m also very proud of the fact that I was able to grow my business in Miami since I moved here only a couple of years ago. My business was doing well in the Netherlands and I have a big network there, so it was very exciting to expand my business in a new Country.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Miami is very international and has a lot of movement. My business is online, but I meet a lot of potential customers in person. There is also always a lot going on in Miami, think network events, fashion shows, various parties. When it comes to Marketing and making pictures, Miami has great locations. Miami is definitely the place to be.
