Today we’d like to introduce you to David and Christina Stocker.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Six years ago, we were pastors in Dallas. We received a call from the former pastor of Central Bible Assembly of God to help transition the church to relate to the next generation. They offered us the position of youth pastors. We had a heart to help the younger generation realize that church can be a place for everyone. That it was relevant and fun and a place to connect and do life with people like you. We have always believed that church is not boring or irrelevant. Soon we became the young adult pastors and the gym upstairs where we were hosting services was soon packed with the youth and young adults every Friday night. The music was cool, the vibe was amazing and people from everywhere began to come. We had one girl who told her friends to get ready like they were going to the club, but instead she brought them to church. That girl that visited that night is now on our staff, as our music director. We have seen so many young adults over the years lives come together in such a good way. She is getting married to her best friend who she met at the young adult prom. We did out of the box events like our own Color Run, throwing powder in the parking lot which made a lot of people want to bring their friends out. Within a year we became the Lead Pastors, bringing this fun, youthful culture to the entire church. Our heart is to help those who might be in a struggle, repeating dead end cycles, or the person just wanting to connect with others in a life-giving positive way. We believe there is place for everyone. From our adventure-filled kids facilities to our Young At Heart Thanksgiving Dinner (55+). Brave Church loves our community and wants to do everything possible to contribute and enrich others lives.
We host ongoing community outreaches such as bringing Brave Apparel to the homeless of our city, bringing Missions Teams to do medical missions in Haiti, building an orphanage for 25 Indian girls, and hosting our Annual Love Week. This included a yearly Pajama Project, bringing PJ’s and books to Miami-Dade Headstart Kids, connecting with the WOW (special needs) Center of Miami for a clothing drive, and Operation Christmas Child plus 5 more local outreach projects. Our motto is to live Brave lives and to lead others to love others, keeping faith and love at the center of who we are. Really, there is nothing better to give yourself to.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have had our share of struggles and trails. When we first became pastors a good part of the church protested due to our cultural relevance and about half the church left. However, the increase of people since that time has quadrupled to three services with now having to open a fourth service.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brave Church – what should we know?
We are known for helping people to live brave lives, write better stories, succeed in life, make eutectic connections with each other, find life long friendships and discover their purpose. We have seen hundred and thousands get free from addictions, find a life long partner and get married, begin to use their talents to creatively and positively impact our city and world, find true meaning for their life and find connections with God. Many people that disengaged with church in general, it has neither been meaningful, personal or applicable to their lives day to day. We have a mural on the side of out building that says, “You belong here.” and many people have attended because they have driven past it and have caught their attention. When they discovered that they truly belong, they discover something they have never before. One of the things we are most proud of, is Brave Apparel which is our own brand centered around our lion logo, we have recently taken global and it has been making an outstanding statement in our culture. It is customized apparel from babies to older generations.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Faith is certainly central to what we do but also we believe our “Purple cow” ( sets us apart) is we are genuine, authentic and truly love our community and world. We also have an unbelievable team of staff and volunteers who are creative and committed to helping others live brave lives.
