Meet David E. Gil of Gil & Associates Insurance Consultants in Sunset

Today we’d like to introduce you to David E. Gil.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Gil & Associates Insurance was established in 2004 when my dad, David Gil, Sr., opened our community-based insurance business. With a background in Life Insurance, he saw the need for an honest, trustworthy and knowledgeable insurance professional service all of his clients’ other insurance needs which led to the founding of Gil & Associates.

As a child, I knew that our family’s business provided a reliable source of security for not only my family but also for our community. I saw that people relied on my father and grandfathers to help them protect the most valuable things in their lives: their homes, businesses, and automobiles. Even as a kid, the fact that our family’s business allowed other people to live with an added sense of peace made me proud.

When I went to college, I studied finance at the University of Miami while playing baseball for the Hurricanes. I always thought it would be a privilege to be a part of what my father had built, but my family was very supportive of me first taking the opportunity to play professional baseball. I was lucky enough to be able to play for eight years in the sport that I loved.

When my first child was born, I knew it was time to come back home and join my father in the family business. With time, I came to the realization that some of the most valuable skills I learned on the field were also very important and applicable to the insurance industry. For example, as a pitcher, you need to know where are all of the players are so none of the bases get stolen. In the same way, as an insurance agent, it’s my duty to know what different companies offer so clients don’t lose out on needed coverage and can be given the best rates possible.

Now that I’ve been in the family business with my father for 8 years, Gil & Associates is providing my own family with the same thing I had growing up. I have peace of mind knowing that I’m taking care of my family by helping to safeguard my clients and their businesses.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel as though if you have any kind of ownership in a business, you’re going to come across obstacles and challenges. When I joined the company in 2009, we were in the middle of a recession and it was during this time that I learned a lot about myself, not only as a person but as a professional as well. Due to the said recession, it was challenging to recruit new clientele. Facing this struggle head-on led me to learn to quote all types of insurance which included homeowners, automobile, commercial, watercrafts, etc. Additionally, I joined networking groups in hopes of obtaining new business. Through the hardship, I expanded my horizons, acquired new knowledge and became a better salesperson.

We are a family-owned insurance agency with over 35 years of experience. We stand by to offer our services to multiple highly reputable companies in order to tailor to the insured’s specific needs. With the experience of our licensed professionals and associates, we continue The Gil Tradition by selecting the carriers that best fit the profile. Though we’re capable of writing all lines, we specialize in homeowners, commercial and automobile insurance. Just about every insurance agency has the ability of writing policies with the same carriers, which means that all prospects will receive the same rates. What differs Gil & Associates from the office down the street is the customer service we provide our clients. Not only will they be handled by quality employees with care, but a quick turn-around time makes us stand out as we work diligently and effortless to deliver as soon as possible.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Though it was a rough start, with persistence, perseverance and the help from my friends and family, I am proud to walk into my office every morning and see my name displayed on the company logo. I take great pride in representing not only my business but my family.
